BMW has officially unveiled the facelifted version of its flagship electric SUV, the iX. While the changes to its design are subtle, the real improvements lie under the hood.
The updated iX lineup comes with larger batteries, more powerful motors, and an improved driving range.
Production is set to begin in March 2025 at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany, with a global rollout expected in spring.
BMW has not drastically altered the iX’s design, but a few refined touches make it stand out from its predecessor. The front features a redesigned kidney grille with a pattern of horizontally opposed diagonal lines.
Customers can also opt for BMW’s Iconic Glow Illumination, which adds an extra layer of sophistication.
The front bumper has been slightly reworked with larger air intakes at the center and slim vertical vents on either side.
The headlights now boast a sharper look with a diagonal LED signature, taking inspiration from the BMW M4 CS.
On the sides, the most noticeable change is the addition of a silver insert along the skirts.
The standard model rides on newly designed 20-inch alloy wheels, but customers can choose larger 21- or 22-inch options with the M Sport package.
The top-end M70 variant even gets an optional set of massive 23-inch wheels.
At the rear, the updates are minimal, with a revised bumper featuring an integrated diffuser for better aerodynamics.
The cabin of the iX facelift remains largely unchanged, but BMW has made some key refinements. The most significant update is the new three-spoke steering wheel, replacing the older two-spoke pentagonal design.
BMW has also introduced M Multi-Function seats, standard on the iX M70 and available as part of the M Sport package for the iX 45 and iX 60.
These seats offer enhanced lumbar support, better contouring, improved backrest width, and active ventilation for added comfort.
Customers can choose from premium upholstery options, including Castanea natural leather, Amido natural leather, and a microfibre/Sensatec combination in Atlas Grey/Black with M-specific stitching.
The iX facelift is available in three versions, each offering improved performance compared to the outgoing model.
BMW has also updated the naming scheme:
The iX 40 is now the iX 45
The iX 50 has been renamed iX 60
The high-performance M60 is now called M70
All three models feature dual motors with all-wheel drive capability. Here’s how they stack up:
iX 45: Powered by a 94.8kWh battery, it delivers 402hp and 700Nm of torque—an increase of 80hp and 70Nm over the previous iX 40.
iX 60: Gets a larger 109.1kWh battery, generating 536hp and 765Nm of torque, with a 13hp boost compared to the outgoing iX 50.
iX M70: Despite having a slightly smaller 108.9kWh battery, it is tuned for performance, producing 659hp and 1,100Nm of torque (with launch control activated)—a 49hp jump from the previous iX M60.
BMW has significantly extended the iX’s range with the facelifted models:
iX 60: Up to 701km (WLTP cycle), making it the longest-range variant
iX 45: Up to 602km on a single charge
iX M70: Up to 600km, despite its high-performance tuning
BMW has also improved charging speeds across the lineup:
The iX 60 and iX M70 support DC fast charging up to 195kW
The iX 45 offers a maximum 175kW fast-charging speed
Following its global debut in spring 2025, the facelifted BMW iX is expected to arrive in India by the end of the year. Currently, BMW offers only the iX xDrive 50 in India at ₹1.39 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
It remains to be seen whether BMW will introduce multiple variants of the facelifted iX in the Indian market or stick to a single offering.
In conclusion, The BMW iX facelift builds on the success of its predecessor by offering more power, better efficiency, and a longer driving range. While the exterior and interior updates are minimal, the improved performance makes this electric SUV a compelling option.
With a global launch set for spring 2025, the updated iX is expected to make its way to India later in the year, bringing cutting-edge technology and enhanced driving dynamics to the luxury EV segment.
