2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Revealed and In Production Ahead of 9 April Debut
The facelifted Taigun has been spotted undisguised and has officially entered production at Volkswagen India's Pune plant, ahead of its 9 April debut.
The updated SUV brings a modernised exterior inspired by the Tiguan and Tayron, along with interior upgrades and a new eight-speed automatic gearbox option.
There is something almost refreshing about a carmaker letting the cat out of the bag before the big reveal. Volkswagen India has done exactly that, commencing production of the updated Taigun at its Pune manufacturing facility before the car's official debut on 9 April.
The announcement was accompanied by images that left absolutely nothing to the imagination, fully revealing the facelifted SUV's new look well ahead of its formal introduction.
Up front, the Taigun facelift takes clear design cues from Volkswagen's larger global offerings, the Tiguan and Tayron. The most distinctive change is a new lighting signature featuring sleeker LED headlamps tied together by an illuminated light bar running across the front fascia.
The bumpers have been reprofiled to suit the sharper look, and at the rear, the tail lamp elements have also been revised. Two new alloy wheel designs are on offer across the range, split between the Standard and GT variants. The GT Line, identifiable by its badging and gloss black wheels, was also visible on the pre-production test mule spotted undisguised prior to the announcement.
Inside, the Taigun facelift is expected to receive a new digital instrument cluster, updated upholstery, and a longer feature list with improvements to the infotainment system.
Many of these changes closely mirror what has been introduced on the Skoda Kushaq facelift, which shares its underpinnings with the Taigun through Volkswagen Group's shared platform strategy for the Indian market.
The engine lineup carries over unchanged, with the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol units continuing in their respective roles. What does change is the gearbox on offer for the smaller engine.
The existing six-speed automatic is expected to make way for a new eight-speed unit, which is also expected on the Kushaq facelift. The 1.5-litre TSI, on the other hand, will continue to be paired with the seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.
Post update, the Taigun steps back into a segment that has only grown more competitive since its original launch. It will square off against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, and the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. The pricing is estimated between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 21 lakh, placing it squarely in the heart of the mid-size SUV space.
