2026 Hyundai Exter Facelift Spied Ahead of Expected March Launch
  • Hyundai is testing the facelifted 2026 Exter on Indian roads, with an expected launch in March 2026.

  • The update focuses on features and minor cosmetic enhancements while retaining the Exter familiar upright SUV design.

Hyundai Motor India is gearing up to introduce a refreshed version of its popular micro-SUV, the Hyundai Exter, with spy shots from recent road tests suggesting the facelift could hit showrooms around March 2026.

Since its launch, the Exter has been a strong performer in the sub-compact SUV segment, thanks to its practicality, value proposition, and SUV-inspired styling.

What’s Expected on the Outside?

The 2026 Hyundai Exter facelift appears to stick closely to the current design language that buyers have responded well to.

According to recent sightings, the SUV maintains its boxy and upright silhouette, a key part of its identity and appeal. Most of the exterior remains familiar, but the facelift is likely to come with minor cosmetic changes such as a refreshed grille pattern, updated front and rear bumpers, and possibly a new alloy wheel design.

Interior Upgrades

While exterior changes are restrained, the interior is where the 2026 Exter facelift may shine. Spy coverage and industry chatter suggest the cabin could receive several upgrades to enhance convenience and connectivity.

One of the key expected improvements is a larger infotainment touchscreen, replacing the current 8-inch unit with a more prominent display that aligns with the trend in newer Hyundai models.

Additional creature comforts that could be part of the facelift include faster USB charging ports, rear sunshades — all aimed at improving the everyday usability and comfort of this city-friendly SUV.

Powertrain to Stay the Same

On the mechanical front, the facelifted Exter is anticipated to keep the same 1.2-litre petrol engine, producing 83hp and 114Nm of torque that powers the current model along with the CNG option, offering familiar performance and economy figures.

Transmission choices are also expected to remain unchanged, with manual and AMT options continuing to be offered.

Segment Positioning and Competitiveness

The Exter sits in a busy and popular segment that includes rivals such as the Tata Punch and Nissan Magnite. While the current Exter is well-liked for its value proposition and practicality, the upcoming facelift is set to strengthen its appeal through enhanced features and updated technology - keeping it competitive in a segment where buyers increasingly prioritise connectivity and comfort, even in entry-level SUVs.

With the launch expected around March 2026, Hyundai’s refreshed Exter could arrive just in time to challenge both existing rivals and new facelifts from competitors, giving buyers another strong choice in the sub-4m SUV space.
