All You Need to Know About Vehicle Registration Process In Andhra Pradesh
The Indian government has entrusted the task of vehicle registration to the RTO (Road Transport Office) of every state and district. No matter which city, or town you are in, you'll have to go to the nearest RTO office and register your vehicle.
With most digital processes, registering your vehicle is easier than ever. But when you are registering your car for the first time, you must physically visit your nearest RTO office.
Documents Needed:
Before going to the RTO office and getting your vehicle registered, here are a few documents that you will need –
- Form 21 or 20 (according to your vehicle)
- Insurance of the vehicle with a photocopy of the same
- Address Proof of the vehicle owner
- Certificates of PUC (pollution) and Roadworthiness
Steps For Registering Your Vehicle:
- Submit the Application – Once you purchase a new vehicle, you must start the registration process within 7 days. So, you must submit the application to the RTO in your district or city.
-Submit the Documents – Along with the application, there are a few documents that you must submit. They are –
Form 21 or 20: If you have purchased a two-wheeler, you must fill out Form 21, and for a four-wheeler, form 20. These forms are the certificate of sale of the vehicles.
PUC Certificate: The PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate is another vital document you must submit. The certificate shows that your vehicle emits pollution gasses according to government standards. This is done to keep air pollution in check.
Roadworthiness Certificate: Another necessary certificate that you must submit is the roadworthiness certificate. Furthermore, this certifies that your vehicle is safe to drive.
Address Proof of the Vehicle Owner: The address proof of the vehicle's owner must also be attached to the application form to verify the owner.
Insurance Document: You must also attach your vehicle insurance certificate to register your vehicle. It is also a mandatory document.
- Pay the Fees for Registration – You will have to pay the registration fee after applying and the required documents with their photocopies. The AP transport office will charge you a registration fee according to the vehicle you own. The fee for medium to heavy vehicles is 3000/- and for light vehicles is 1500/-.
- Pay the Road Taxes – In the end, you will have to pay the road taxes. The amount you have to pay depends on various factors, like the vehicle's engine capacity. Furthermore, the vehicle's overall value also plays a vital role in road tax calculation.
Permanent Registration Validity
Permanent vehicle registration authorizes and validates your vehicle for 15 years. After 15 years, you will again have to go through the same process as the government guidelines dictate. After the first 15-year duration, registration is extended for 5 years at a time. You must apply for the renewal of your vehicle certificate within 60 days of the expiry of the previous one. Then you are good to go for the next 5 years.
Temporary Registration And Extension Process
If you want to get temporary registration for your vehicle, you must fill out form 20. According to the Central Motor Vehicle Rule 1989, the form needs to be adequately filled from fields 23 to 32. The applicant will then get a temporary vehicle registration certificate. But if you own a two-wheeler, this quick registration will last only a month.
