Things you should know about e-challan Odisha

In our country, traffic violations are reasonably widespread. It is relatively typical for drivers in the country to have a challan recorded against their name due to overspeeding, disobeying traffic signals, or any such offence.

The Odisha traffic department has introduced a heavy penalty of Rs. 7000 if someone is seen overspeeding. The speed limits on major roads in Odisha have been set to 50kmp to increase the safety of commuters and people on the road. An e-challan will also be issued where traffic violators can pay the penalty online.

Apart from assisting in online payments of e-challan and vehicle taxes, the e-challan Odisha will also display the driver's background, and repeat offenders will face increased penalties. The vehicle check report (VCR) will be generated on the spot by the mobile e-challan device, eliminating the need for a manual VCR form.

Traffic infractions that may result in an e-challan in Odisha

The traffic police may issue an e-challan for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Not stopping at red lights.
  • Traveling without valid insurance, RC book.
  • Driving an unlicensed car.
  • Driving without a legal driver's license.
  • Speeding over the stated speed limit.
  • Driving when intoxicated.
  • Obstructing traffic and disobeying traffic rules.

How To Know If An E-Challan Is Still Active?

You will receive an RTO challan SMS and email on your registered phone number and email address if a challan is issued to you. However, there may be times when you may miss the SMS or email. In such instances, you can check the status of your e-challan online. Here's how to do that:

  • Visit the 'E-Challan Parivahan' official website.
  • On the service bar menu, select 'Check Online Service.'
  • From the drop-down menu, select 'Check Challan Status.'
  • To check the status of the challan, enter the information. You can enter a Challan Number, Vehicle Number, or Driver's License Number.
  • To check the challan status online, enter the Captcha and click 'Get Detail.'
  • It is an effortless procedure that will take a minute or two of your time.

What Is The Deadline For Making E-Challan Payments?

You must pay the e-challan within 15 days of the date of issuing. Individuals will be charged a late fee of INR 10 if they do not pay the required penalty within 15 days. If a person fails to pay the challan dues within a maximum of 60 days, the case will undoubtedly go to court.

What If You Don't Pay The E-Challan?

Due to the new traffic rules and regulations, people have become more cautious when driving on roadways. Many states witnessed massive challans issued to commuters when the motor vehicle act of 2019 was first implemented; for example, in Odisha, a challan for INR 59,000 was issued for tractors, and an INR 6.5 lakhs challan was issued for just a truck driver.

If you have a challan pending in court and have not paid it within the specified time frame, you may face the following consequences:

  • A constable will be sent to the vehicle's registered address to collect the e-challan.
  • If you have an E-challan Odisha that you need to pay, you will be summoned by the court to do it. Even if you obtain a challan on the spot and do not pay it off promptly, it transfers to the court, where you can settle it. If the challan's time limit is over, a court order about the outstanding challan is usually issued.
  • If the person still refuses to pay the challan even after all this, then the person's license will be suspended

Insurance Payments:

The government is experimenting with a new system in which they can reimburse an individual's e-challan sum through their insurance. If a person cannot pay their challan on time, the outstanding challan can be retrieved when they renew their insurance. According to sources, the Regulatory Insurance Authority of India (IRDA) has started working on the project's preliminary work. This way, the number of challans pending in court can be reduced.

Conclusion

You'll get an SMS and an email when an e-challan is issued to you, but if you miss this notification, you can check the e-challan status online. You can check your e-challan status by following a few simple steps on E-Challan Parivahan's website. You may also check the e-challan amount online much more conveniently and pay the fine online and offline.
