Toyota Camry is the perfect car cherished by self-driven and chauffeured owners alike.
The Toyota Camry is a stylish and luxury hybrid sedan that has been a top choice for years for good reasons. With a comfortable interior and a reputation for being one of the most reliable cars on the road, the Camry is a great choice for executives and families alike.
The car has been a default pick for customers in this price range, thanks to its spacious cabin, modern-day features, fuel-efficient and refined engine, and overall ease of driving still makes it one of the strongest contenders in its space.
The sedan is one of the best-selling cars from the fold of the Japanese brand and goes up against vehicles like Audi A4 and Skoda Superb in the market.
The Toyota Camry has been in the Indian market for more than two decades and is an important cornerstone of the Japanese brand.
Since 2002, the sedan has witnessed many upgrades, with the eighth-generation model launched in 2019. Three years later, in January 2022, the carmaker teased the launch of the facelifted version based on the eighth-gen model via its social media handle.
Two months later, the new March 2022, Camry was launched in a single trim. The updates were subtle, with mild cosmetic changes and an advanced infotainment system. There were no changes under the hood, and the car continues to employ the same engine.
The ninth-generation Toyota Camry is expected to launch within the next couple of years.
From the outside, the 2022 Toyota Camry is a sharp-looking vehicle with an excellent street presence. The sheer size is attributed towards the underpinnings, which it shares with the siblings Avalon and Lexus ES sedan.
The saloon features a sleek grille, emphasized by chrome, with the front bumper featuring a larger and broader air dam. The LED projector headlamps nicely gel with the grille, while the LED DRLs further add to the road presence.
In profile, the car takes a traditional approach with no fancy design elements and only a single crease running across the length of the vehicle. The 18-inch alloy wheels further enhance the sporty look.
The rear looks tight and smart, with interesting elements, such as an integrated spoiler and a single chrome bar acting as a bridge between the combi tail lamp.
The interiors of the car are done in high-quality leather with silver inserts. The beige colour theme appears to be bright and gives a feeling of spaciousness the moment you step in.
The dashboard gets a unique Y-shaped design, hosting the new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, powered by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 9-speaker JBL sound system takes care of the music and entertainment. The car gets a 7-inch multi-information display informing on every aspect of driving.
Then there are features like a head-up display, three-zone climate control, rear ac vents, rear armrest with capacitive touch control and wireless smartphone charger that make you fall in the lap of luxury.
The Camry is a quintessential luxury, and the seats are the best way to prove that. The ventilated seats at the front, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, electrically adjustable front passenger seat and power reclining rear seats, all offer a comfortable experience during the journey. The sofa-like support at the rear is the icing on the cake.
In terms of practicality, the Camry comes with deep storage space under the centre armrest, while there are plenty of cubbyholes for storing stuff and USB ports at both the front and the rear for charging.
The boot space of 587 litres is massive, and you can stash a lot of bags for your journey. Overall, the Camry will attract a lot of chauffeur-driven buyers.
The sedan offers a lot in terms of safety equipment with superior safety ratings at this price point.
The car comes with 9 airbags, including driver and front passenger, side knee and rear side curtain airbags. The number of airbags is far more than what cars like Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-series offer.
The Camry is engineered to meet the demands of the modern age as it comes with advanced safety measures. These include an Anti-lock braking system, with electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability control, traction control, and Brake Assist.
The safety is further enhanced by features like a tyre pressure monitoring system and a rear camera with sensors.
The 2022 Toyota Camry continues to deploy the same 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 178PS and 221Nm torque. The engine is paired with a hybrid system with the permanent magnet synchronous motor, developing 120PS and 202Nm torque. The combined power output of 218PS is more than what the previous engine offered.
The vehicle starts in electric mode, and as you would expect, there is absolutely no vibration and sound, followed by a quick surge coming from the petrol engine. The powertrain is refined, especially at cruising speeds, forcing the driver to adopt a comfortable and efficient driving style. There is enough power on demand, and the delivery is linear and smooth.
The engine is married to an e-CVT which transmits the power effortlessly. There is a provision for paddle shifters on either side of the steering. In manual mode, these paddles can be used for engine braking.
The new suspension has improved the driving dynamics drastically as the car now soaks up road imperfections and potholes like a breeze. Grip levels are excellent, while there is a slight body roll during corner encounters. The car can get from 0-100kmph in just over 8 seconds, reaching a top speed of over 180kmph.
The Camry comes with 4th gen hybrid system, and the transition from hybrid mode to EV mode, and vice versa is very smooth.
There are three driving modes Eco, Normal and Sport. The Eco mode aims at better fuel efficiency, Normal slightly increases the throttle response and weight of the steering, while the Sport enhances both these dynamics significantly. The Sport mode is best for highway cruising.

Value for the Money!
Toyota brand is famous for its build quality and after-sale service. The best thing about Camry is that it is very fuel efficient with a mileage of almost 20 kmpl. The engine is also powerful and the interiors are comfortable and roomy even in long-distance travelling. I've driven it in all kinds of weather conditions and it's always performed well.
