Lollapalooza is an annual music festival that usually takes place in Chicago but now has iterations in different cities worldwide. It debuted in India in Mumbai in January 2023. It was a 2-day multi-genre music festival held at the Mahalaxmi Race Course on the 28th and 29th of January, managed by BookMyShow. It was an environment-friendly festival, with only e-vehicles allowed within the festival premises. The event hosted over 35,000 attendees from across the country, and over 40 performers participated in the event, including some of the biggest bands and musicians from around the globe.
Managing an event of this magnitude, with thousands of attendees, is a massive undertaking. The first and most basic challenge often faced in such scenarios is the management of the crowd before entering the event, i.e., the parking situation. The following were the challenges faced by BookMyShow for Lollapalooza in terms of parking:
Parking management was a significant concern due to the lack of parking spaces at the event venue.
Traffic from the parking facility to the main venue had to be managed.
Traffic around the venue also had to be managed to avoid congestion.
Pre-booking of parking slots: With the help of Park+, attendees could pre-book parking slots one week in advance on the Park+ and BookMyShow app. All ticket holders were sent push notifications and texts to reserve their slots in advance.
Extra parking lots: Three different parking lots around the venue were taken on lease by Park+, which provided ample space for all attendees to park their vehicles without any issues.
Shuttle availability: Shuttle services were available to cover the distance between the parking lots and the venue.
Parking management: Besides the above solutions, Park+ handled all the booking and manpower requirements to make the process seamless.
Cashless process: Using digital payments via the Park+ app reduced the need for cash transactions, reducing issues that can arise with cash-based payments.
Time efficient: With additional parking lots and efficient management of booked slots, parking queues were shorter than expected.
Customer convenience: Having slot pre-booking and cashless payments available in one place on the Park+ app significantly improved customer convenience and overall experience.
Customers who booked their slots with Park+ did not have to worry about looking for a parking space. As the parking lots were operational 24/7 for the event, customers could visit the event at their convenience. In addition, since manpower deployed by Park+ managed the parking lots, customers could enjoy the festival carefree without worrying about their vehicles' safety.
