With 30,000 EV SUVs sold in just seven months, Mahindra has reached a significant EV milestone

  • Fast Growth in Demand

  • India’s shift towards the electric mobility market

Mahindra's electric SUV portfolio, which combines the BE 6 and XEV 9e vehicles, has surpassed 30,000 units in just seven months since sales began in March 2025. This milestone emphasizes two important features:

  • India's growing electric mobility market is seeing an increase in demand for high-end EVs.

  • Mahindra's Born Electric strategy has been validated, showing that the company's domestic electric SUVs are becoming popular.

Models and Delivery Schedule

  • Mahindra's new generation electric SUV lineup, which is based on the INGLO platform, consists of the XEV 9e and BE 6.

  • With features and performance aimed above entry-level EVs, these models are positioned as premium electric SUVs.

Timeline for Delivery and Sales

  • These models began to be delivered in March 2025.

  • The total sales have already topped 30,000 units, having already surpassed 20,000 by September.

  • This translates to an average of about 4,285 units per month, according to one Hindi article.

Why Customers Are Selecting These Models

Strong uptake is being driven by several factors:

  • Battery range and options: There are two battery capacities available for both models (59 kWh and 79 kWh). The larger pack is said to provide a range of up to 682 km.

  • High-end audio systems, AR-based HUDs, panoramic glass roofs, and Level 2 ADAS safety features are just a few of the premium amenities that these vehicles provide.

  • Strong branding and styling: These vehicles are positioned as aspirational EVs rather than merely commuter versions thanks to the futuristic look and "Born Electric" branding.

Mahindra's Future Plans

  • Mahindra has already revealed the Mahindra XEV 9S, a seven-seater electric SUV that will increase the company's electric range beyond that of its two current models.

  • Given the current pace, Mahindra's electric SUV plan is probably going to expand into additional markets and perhaps more models.

  • India's EV shift is accelerating, as seen by the outstanding sales performance, particularly in the SUV market, which has historically been dominated by fossil-fuel vehicles.
