Volkswagen Tayron 3-row SUV to come to India in the coming weeks?
New-car products such as Tiguan R Line and Golf GTI are helping Volkswagen to continuously regrow its portfolio of luxury cars in India. The brand, however, is in need of a three-row SUV in its lineup with the last offering being the Tiguan Allspace, discontinued in late 2021. Volkswagen Tayron is the vehicle that intends to alter that.
Up until now it was only sold in China, the Tayron is coming to replace the second generation of Tiguan Allspace in international markets. Tests spotted in India have been displaying Tayron badging as opposed to naming it as Tiguan Allspace, indicating that VW could roll it out with its international name.
Although the Tayron inherited many of the design elements that the Tiguan already sports, it also has characteristic grille, reworked headlights, original LED taillight signatures, and revised bumpers. The long wheelbase is not merely a power move on the road but it also opens up room that accommodates an additional row of seats.
With all the seats up, boot volume is 345 litres that increase to 850 litres when the third row is folded, which is more convenient to the family owners.
The test mule seen in India last week wore an R Line badge and alloy wheels just like the Tiguan R Line that we sell here. This indicates that VW might bring the Tayron with highly optioned R Line at the start with an emphasis on luxuriousness.
Internally, the Tayron is likely to replicate the Tiguan equipment list, with luxurious materials, modern infotainment, and a heavy emphasis on passenger comfort: though there will be more room in it, too.
Powertrain You can count on the well-known 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 204 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, and the 7-speed dual-clutch engine.
Similarly to the Skoda Kodiaq, the Tayron could be assembled locally in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar by VW, to make it stay competitive in the 50 lakh price bracket.
