Volkswagen India issues second seatbelt recall in 2025

SAVWIPL (Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited) has issued another recall for its units due to faulty seatbelts, similar to the first recall in May 2025. The second recall by Skoda-Volkswagen was prompted by the following two main reasons:

  • Cracks in the metal base frame of the rear seatbelt assembly on both left and right sides.

  • Incorrect parts were installed in the front and rear seatbelt assemblies.

These issues could lead to serious injuries, especially in the case of a frontal collision. A similar problem caused the May 2025 recall, where 47,000+ cars were affected.

Affected Production Batch

The recalled vehicles were manufactured between December 2021 and May 2025.
The affected units include:

  • 860 Skoda cars (Kushaq, Slavia, Kylaq)

  • 961 Volkswagen cars (Virtus, Taigun)

What's The Next Move?

Skoda-Volkswagen has started directly contacting the car owners of the affected vehicles. Owners can also check their recall status on:

  • Skoda India recall microsite

  • Volkswagen India recall microsite

Enter your 17-character VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to check whether your car has been recalled or not.

VIN can be found stamped on the car body, on a plate under the windscreen in the lower left, and mentioned in the vehicle’s registration certificate.

Proactive Quality Measures

These recalls demonstrate Skoda-Volkswagen's proactive approach to quality assurance and vehicle safety. The company states that such recalls are fairly common and form part of the trust-building process as they ensure the safety of their customers.

Conclusion

These recalls highlight the importance of quality checks, as emphasized by Skoda-Volkswagen, as manufacturing issues can lead to immense damage. Moreover, the company must also inform the customers promptly.

Owners are advised to check their vehicles and, in case of issues, have them inspected immediately.
