Volkswagen India has formally declared the much-anticipated entry of the Golf GTI Mk 8.5 into the Indian market, thereby marking the performance hatchback's first foray into the Indian landscape.
The pre-bookings for the hot hatch begin on May 5, 2025, and will only be available via Volkswagen's official site. The Golf GTI will be imported as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and will be limited in availability.
The new Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine putting out 265 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque. The GTI can dart from 0 to 100 kmph in under 5.9 seconds with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.
It also has performance enhancements such as a front axle differential lock and progressive steering to provide sharp and agile handling for enthusiastic drivers.
The GTI features exclusive GTI styling cues that make it stand out from the standard Golf, including 3D LED tail lamps with dynamic turn signals, dual exhausts, a roof-mounted spoiler, GTI badges, and contrast red brake calipers with five-spoke alloys.
Inside the cabin, sporty elements abound with red accents, a GTI-specific digital instrument cluster, and ambient lighting.
Other features of this vehicle include a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment with ChatGPT integration, head-up display, powered ventilated seat functions, and customizable drive modes, effectively merging technology and performance.
The Golf GTI is expected to be priced above Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries are set to begin as early as June when units will be allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Speaking at the launch, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, mentioned his pride in launching a performance icon for Indian buyers that mixes day-to-day usability with the thrill of German engineering.
