Upcoming Maruti Cars to get a Hybrid Powertrain in India

Maruti Suzuki’s newly designed HEV series is all set to introduce the hybrid tech in several of its upcoming cars in the Indian market. It is an interesting choice when most of the market is switching towards EVs and new cars going the hybrid way.

Maruti Suzuki is prepared to launch hybrid technology in a number of its next models for the Indian market. While many of the big competitors in the domestic market are leaning toward electric vehicles, others, like Maruti and Toyota, are choosing to go hybrid. This is an unusual situation.

Several Maruti vehicles with hybrid drivetrains will be available in the upcoming months.

Let's discuss it in more depth now.

Maruti Upcoming Hybrid Cars

Maruti Suzuki is all prepared to launch all new hybrid powertrain enabled cars and are slated for a launch in the upcoming months. This step is termed very unusual since the carmaker has decided to go hybrid when most of the brands are going towards electric.

1. Maruti Fronx Hybrid

When the Fronx, which was the best-selling vehicle in India in February 2025, is introduced in the nation by the middle of 2025, it will be the first vehicle from the brand to employ this newly created hybrid drivetrain. With HEV series hybrid technology, the 2025 Fronx makeover is anticipated to provide an incredible 35 km/l.

It has been told through the sources that the new HEV series would be effective at low speeds, and it makes it ideal to drive in the thick city traffic.

2. Maruti Baleno Hybrid

Along with the 1.2L 3-cylinder Z12E gasoline engine, the Baleno will also include an innovative hybrid powertrain. A 1.5–2 kWh battery and an electric motor to support the engine will make up the hybrid arrangement. It is anticipated to achieve a fuel economy of over 35 km/l, just like the Fronx.

Nissan's e-Power technology serves as a major source of inspiration for Maruti's HEV series hybrid system. It draws cheaper production costs and is simple to maintain. When the hatch receives a generational upgrade, the Maruti Baleno hybrid is anticipated to make its debut in early 2026. Maruti YTA has been its internal codename.

3. Maruti New Compact MPV

The Suzuki Spacia, which is based on the Japanese specification, would be introduced in India by the middle of 2026 as part of the company's HEV series hybrid system. Code-named YDB, it will be positioned opposite the Renault Triber and behind the Ertiga in the brand's lineup. In contrast to Spacia's sliding doors, the Maruti YDB MPV is thought to have a boxy shape with normal doors in the second row.

Conclusion

Maruti Suzuki's strategic move toward hybrid technology signals a significant shift in India's automotive landscape. While the industry is gradually transitioning toward electric vehicles, Maruti's focus on hybrids offers an alternative that balances efficiency and practicality. With the Fronx Hybrid set to debut in 2025, followed by the Baleno Hybrid and a new compact MPV, the brand is set to redefine fuel efficiency and urban mobility. These upcoming models will cater to consumers looking for greener alternatives without the challenges of full EV adoption. As the hybrid era unfolds, Maruti Suzuki's innovative HEV series could play a crucial role in shaping India's future mobility trends.
