Toyota’s smallest SUV Maruti Fronx-Based Taisor, is to make its debut on April 3

Toyota is getting ready to release the revised or rebranded Fronx model from Maruti Suzuki. The nameplate Urban Cruiser Taisor, which will be unveiled on April 3, has already been trademarked by the company. According to reports, the model may share the same architect and be identical to the subcompact crossover SUV when it launches. On the other hand, significant external and internal cosmetic modifications are expected. Also, in Toyota's India lineup, the Urban Cruiser Taisor will be the smallest SUV.

Taisor: Design and Body

Exterior:

An entirely new bumper featuring updated headlamp clusters, new LED DRL signatures, alloy wheels, updated taillights, and an updated rear bumper is expected. The variations will only affect the soft plastic components; sheet metal will remain unchanged. Since the Fronx is based on the Baleno, it is reasonable to expect updates for the rebranded Fronx along the lines of the Baleno-Glanza.

Interior:

Regarding the interior, there have been rumors that Toyota may add more upscale components to the model. Improved touchscreen infotainment with all-car connect technology, new upholstery, an updated dashboard layout, higher-quality plastic for the cabin, and roomy yet comfortable seating for every passenger are also included on the list.

Taisor: Engine Options

A 1.0-liter BoosterJet engine producing 100 horsepower and 147 Nm and a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 90 horsepower and 113 Nm with a 5-speed manual gearbox are the two engines available for the Fronx. Regarding automatics, the petrol gets a 5-speed AMT and the turbo-petrol has a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Since more than 80% of Fronx buyers choose the 1.2-liter petrol engine, inevitably, the Boosterjet will also be transferred to the Taisor. However, it is unclear if this will happen and If it does, it will be the first turbo-petrol engine in Toyota's lineup, which is currently made up mostly of diesel and hybrid vehicles. There is a CNG powertrain option for the Fronx as well, and this ought to apply to the Toyota derivative as well.

Taisor: Launch, Price, and Rivals

After the Brezza-based Urban Cruiser was phased out in late 2022, Toyota will make a comeback to the sub-4 million SUV market with the Urban Cruiser Taisor, albeit in a new coupe-SUV configuration.

Toyota Taisor is expected to launch in India in Sep 2024 in the expected price range of Rs. 12.00 - 16.00 Lakh.

In addition to the Fronx, it will compete with other small SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
