Top 5 Best-Selling Car Makers in July 2024: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Sales Decline

Is Maruti Suzuki India’s all-time favorite and reliable option? In July 2024, Maruti Suzuki again topped the list of best-selling car makers in India. Despite being the topper, the company could not exceed the sales number when compared to the previous year. Maruti Suzuki sold 1,37,463 units in July 2024, a decrease from the 1,52,126 units sold in the same month last year. This drop represents a negative growth of 9.6%. Even though it didn’t beat last year’s sales, it did not forget to maintain its position in the market.

Hyundai and Tata Motors Experience Declines

Hyundai, the second-best-selling car maker in July 2024, also faced a decline in sales. The company sold 49,013 units, down from 50,701 units in July 2023. This represents a negative growth of 3.3%. Tata Motors, which came in third, saw its sales fall from 47,630 units in July 2023 to 44,727 units in July 2024, marking a negative growth of 6.1%.

Mahindra and Toyota Show Positive Growth

While the top three car makers saw declining sales, Mahindra and Toyota bucked the trend with positive growth. Mahindra sold 41,623 units in July 2024, up from 36,205 units in July 2023, which translates to a positive growth of 15%. Toyota saw even more impressive growth, with sales rising from 20,759 units in July 2023 to 29,533 units in July 2024, a significant increase of 42.3%.

The overall passenger vehicle market showed year-over-year growth in July 2024, despite the declines seen by some of the leading car makers. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the four-wheeler passenger vehicle segment experienced growth, indicating a positive trend in the market.

In conclusion, while the leading car makers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors experienced declines in their sales in July 2024, Mahindra and Toyota showed positive growth. Maruti Suzuki retained its top position despite losing some market share. The overall market trend for passenger vehicles remained positive, suggesting a resilient automotive sector. Understanding these sales trends helps consumers and industry stakeholders get a clearer picture of the current market dynamics.
