The Tamil Nadu Plant Rolls out when it comes to VinFast VF7

Vietnamese giant EV VinFast has now formally entered the Indian automotive market by opening its first vehicle manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on August 4, 2025.

The first product to roll off the line is the VinFast VF7, which will become the first model of the brand to go on sale in India this festive season. The lower VF6 will come soon after and the booking for both models is already in progress.

Mega Investment in Tamil Nadu

VinFast India's manufacturing plant is affiliated with the SIPCOT (State Industrial Park of Tamil Nadu Industrial Promotion Corporation) and is located on 400 acres, where it has an annual capacity of 1.5 lakh units.

The first round of investment is 4,000 crore, where a total of 16,000 crore will be injected further in a span of the next five years. It will create up to 3,500 workplaces, which highlights the brand's orientation to the Indian EV ecosystem in the long term.

VinFast VF7: An Elegant Inaugural

The VF7 is a strong and luxury EV that has a sporty look with LED projector headlamps, distinctive DRLs, wraparound tail lamps, and a panoramic glass roof on top.

On the inside, there is a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment, an 8-way power driver seat, ventilated front seats and a head-up display.

Both use a 70.8 kWh battery, with range figures to be announced.

VinFast VF6: Compact, Capable & Coming Soon

Targeting the compact EV SUV segment, the VF6 will rival models like the Hyundai Creta EV and Mahindra BE 6. International specs suggest two versions:

  • Eco: 177 PS, 250 Nm, 59.6 kWh battery, 410 km range

  • Plus: 204 PS, 310 Nm, 59.6 kWh battery, 379 km range

The interior mimics the VF7’s with a dual-tone cabin and tech-laden dashboard.
