The new Maruti Swift has been leaked ahead of its launch in India
The upcoming launch of the fourth-generation Maruti Swift is drawing near, with bookings already underway and the model beginning to arrive at Maruti's Arena dealerships nationwide, signifying its imminent availability. The new Swift designed for India showcases some distinct changes compared to its international counterpart.
The Indian version of the Swift exhibits similarities with the global model, albeit with some modifications. Notable design updates include the inclusion of fog lamps in the front bumper and fresh alloy wheels. While the model currently in view features a single white color, there is a high likelihood of dual-tone color options being offered.
Both the Indian version and the global variant of the Swift share a similar interior aesthetic, featuring elements such as a 'floating' 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, asymmetrical analog dials, a digital AC panel for climate control, and a flat-bottom steering wheel with assorted control switches. However, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology may not be included in the India-specific Swift. The showcased model appears to belong to a higher-spec variant, presumably the Swift ZXI, with expected trims to include entry-level LXI, mid-spec VXI, and top-spec ZXI versions. All variants are anticipated to come equipped with six airbags, along with seatbelt reminders for all occupants. Additionally, premium variants may feature a rear camera, rear defogger, and wash/wipe functionality.
The new Swift slated for the Indian market is poised for enhanced fuel efficiency compared to its predecessor. Powered by the new 84hp, 112Nm Z12E engine—a 1.2-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated unit—the model may exhibit slightly lower power output compared to the previous K12 engine. However, it is projected to deliver superior fuel efficiency, boasting an ARAI-rated mileage of 25.72kpl, an improvement of over 3 kilometers per liter. Expectations suggest that both a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT transmission will be on offer, with the possibility of a Swift CNG variant joining the lineup shortly.
In a related development, Maruti's anticipated rival to the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is set to make its debut in India on May 9th.
