The New Hyundai Tucson Revealed Globally in New York on October 1, 2026
  • The new Tucson is 4,700 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall, up by 60 mm, 40 mm and 20 mm respectively over the outgoing model, with the extra length going toward a longer wheelbase and more cabin room.

  • Alongside the existing petrol and hybrid options, Hyundai is adding a plug-in hybrid variant for the first time, with 292 PS and up to 81 km of claimed electric-only range.

Hyundai unveiled the next-generation Tucson in New York on October 1, 2026. It's a global reveal rather than an India-specific one. The SUV goes on sale in South Korea later this year, with North America, Europe and other markets, India likely among them eventually, following through 2027.

A Bigger Body Built Around More Cabin Space

The new Tucson grows across the board. Length goes up to 4,700 mm, width to 1,905 mm and height to 1,685 mm, with the wheelbase stretching by 30 mm to 2,785 mm. Hyundai has used that extra room to open up the cabin rather than just the exterior footprint, and door opening angles widen from 73 to 83 degrees for easier entry and exit.

A Cleaner Dashboard with Physical Buttons Intact

Inside, the dashboard moves to a two-layer design, a horizontal upper section for visual clarity sitting above a deeper open tray for storage.

Hyundai has kept dedicated physical buttons for climate and audio controls below the main touchscreen, a deliberate call to avoid pushing everything into the display. Screen size depends on the market and variant: buyers get either a 17-inch or a 12.9-inch central touchscreen, paired with a separate 9.9-inch display ahead of the driver.

The new Pleos Connect infotainment system, built on Android Automotive OS, also introduces Gleo AI, an in-cabin assistant meant to handle requests in natural language rather than through menus.

Petrol, Hybrid, and now a Plug-In Hybrid

The Tucson continues with petrol and hybrid engine choices, and adds a plug-in hybrid variant to the lineup for the first time.

The hybrid, a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol paired with electric motors, makes up to 245 PS in Korean specification. The new PHEV pairs the same 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 17.1 kWh battery for a combined 292 PS, and Hyundai claims up to 81 km of electric-only range along with a 7.2 kW onboard charger for home or public charging.

What does this Means for India?

India currently gets the outgoing Tucson facelift, priced from Rs 29.00 lakh to Rs 36.00 lakh ex-showroom. That pricing applies only to the model on sale today and has no bearing on the new generation, which Hyundai hasn't confirmed for India yet going by this reveal.

With North America and Europe only joining the rollout in 2027, an India launch, if and when it happens, is realistically some way off.

For now, the new Tucson is a global story, and buyers here will have to wait for Hyundai to say more about local plans.
