The facelift of the Tata Punch Spied during Testing in Pune
The new Tata Punch facelift has been spotted on numerous occasions, and the new set of spy shots was taken in Pune. Although a more notable redesign based on the Punch EV might have been expected by many, the test mules show that Tata has instead opted to keep the SUV's rugged lines.
Projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a wide grille courtesy of Y-shaped detailing, squared wheel arches and aggressive-looking LED tail-lamp clusters are retained. A new pattern of alloy wheels may be added; however, the majority of the design clues remain unchanged.
The largest transformations can be seen on the inside. The facelift will also come with a new 2-spoke steering wheel, leatherette wrapped and bearing the Tata illuminated logo, along with touch/toggle audio and cruise controls.
The other outstanding technology is a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, which places the punch in the same league as newer Tata vehicles. The bigger 10.2-inch console available in the Punch EV will not be in no way included in this upgrade.
A new climate control panel club is also on the cards, and the touchscreen infotainment system with 10.2 inches will be maintained.
The Punch also has a robust list, such as a voice-activated electric sunroof, wireless phone charger, rear AC vent and quick USBs. Tata is likely to bring in six airbags as standard with the facelift, further adding to its safety credentials. Reverse camera, hill start control and ESP are among other features that are likely to survive.
Powering the facelift will be the already proven 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, which generates 87.8 PS power and 115 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. There will also be a CNG variant providing 73.5 PS and 103 Nm and a manual gearbox.
The Punch has broken records as the Punch has been the fastest sold SUV in India, with Punch smashing 6 lakh sales in less than four years. The facelifted model is likely to enhance its assault against competitors, especially the Maruti Fronx, Hyundai Exter and other sub-compact SUVs, making nearly a quarter of Tata volumes every month.
