Tesla has made a significant stride to further entrench itself in the Indian market by opening its entry product, the Model Y, nationwide bookings using its official site.
The press release through the social media platform of Tesla proves that priority delivery in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and Pune will be launched, and other cities will soon be announced in later phases.
The step will be the most aggressive one the company has undertaken so far into the Indian EV market, which we have waited months to see with regulatory talks.
The Tesla Model Y is being introduced in two variants:
Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (LR RWD)
The RWD models are capable of up to 500 km of WLTP reserves, and the LR RWD model raises this amount to an impressive 622km. Both variants have an electronically limited maximum speed of 201 km/h and the 19-inch Crossflow alloy wheels. There are 6 colour variants available to the customers.
Performance values are impressive as well, with the RWD version taking off to the 0-100 km/h speed in 5.9 seconds, and the LR RWD version doing it a little faster in 5.6 seconds.
Tesla Model Y shall be sold at a starting ex-showroom price of 59.89 lakh rupees. Another value added to the buyers is to go with Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature that comes as an add-on for ₹6 lakh in Tesla India.
To reserve a Model Y, interested buyers need to complete a two-part non-refundable booking process:
An initial payment of ₹22,220 is required immediately.
A second instalment of ₹3 lakh must be paid within seven days.
These deposits include Tax Collected at Source (TCS), which cannot be refunded under any case, indicating that Tesla is quite sure of high demand from customers.
The pan-India booking process is an indication of serious long-term commitment of Tesla to the Indian market. This is because the company promises performance, technology, and sustainability in the Model Y that are bound to disrupt the luxury EV landscape of India.
