Tata Motors is gearing up to expand its popular Nexon range with the introduction of a CNG variant in the coming weeks. Recently showcased at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo in its production-ready form, the Nexon CNG will be the third vehicle from Tata to feature the innovative twin CNG cylinder technology.
In terms of design, the Nexon CNG will closely resemble its petrol and diesel counterparts. The key visual difference will be the addition of the new i-CNG badging at the rear, signaling its eco-friendly capabilities.
Under the hood, the Nexon CNG is expected to feature several updates, including a single advanced ECU, a modular fuel filter, an auto-switch between fuels, a direct start in CNG mode, and a CNG tank with a 60-liter (water equivalent) storage capacity.
Interior-wise, the Nexon CNG is likely to mirror the features of the standard Nexon. Potential highlights include:
Ventilated front seats
360-degree camera
Fully digital instrument console
12.3-inch touchscreen system
Wireless mobile connectivity
Tata Motors has yet to disclose the exact technical specifications for the Nexon CNG. However, in its petrol mode, the 1.2-litre turbo engine currently generates 118bhp and 170 Nm of torque. Notably, the Nexon CNG will introduce a segment-first AMT option alongside the standard six-speed manual transmission.
The Nexon CNG is not the only upgrade Tata has planned for its popular SUV. The Nexon, a strong competitor to models like the Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue, is also slated to receive a new DCT gearbox soon, a development recently confirmed on Tata’s official website.
