Tata Harrier EV has received a 5-Star BNCAP Safety Rating
Tata Motors has yet again brought a new level of car safety as the new Harrier EV has received the full 5-star crash safety rating by Bharat NCAP. Having achieved a perfect 32/32 in adult occupant protection (AOP) as well as 45/49 in child occupant protection (COP), the electric SUV has been amongst the safest EVs warriors will have to ride on Indian roads.
The Harrier EV is now the second vehicle (after the Mahindra XUV 9e) to get a full score in passenger safety in the adult occupant protection recommendation made by Bharat NCAP.
During frontal offset and side impact, the SUV offered adequate protection to the critical body parts of the driver and the front passenger dummy occupants by offering them good protection. It has been rated as OK in the higher side pole impact test but its overall safety rating according to adult safety credentials is still at a prestigious adult level.
The Harrier EV had child protection of 45/49, just like the XUV 9e which was its direct competitor. It scored the maximum marks in the dynamic and installation of child seats test.
In the front passenger seat, there were stable ISOFIX anchorages and support legs used to fix the rear-facing child seats during the crash simulations in order to provide maximum safety of both dummies (an 18-month child dummy and a 3-year old child dummy).
Tata has tested the Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 AWD (top-end versions) and the 5-star rating extends to the entire line up of Harrier EV.
Common equipment is six airbags (seven on upper models), electronic stability adjustment (ESC), ISOFIX fastenings, pedestrian protection conformity, and a passenger airbag off switch.
The Harrier EV becomes the eighth car in the Tata inventory after getting a 5-star BNCAP rating, proving the brand image as a company that is serious about safety. Curiously enough, the ICE-positioned Harrier is a 5-star-rated BNCAP car, but lags a little behind AOP and COP scores when it compares to the EV variant.
The outcome not only makes the Harrier EV a good and hi-tech electric SUV but also a princess of electric car safety in India.
