Tata Curvv iCNG Debuts Soon in India, just in time for the festive season
Tata Motors is going to increase its eco-friendly models with the introduction of a new version of the Tata Curvv coupe-SUV, in the form of the Tata Curvv iCNG. A test mule of the CNG-powered Curvv was recently spotted testing in Pune, clad in heavy camouflage, which could mean we're looking at a launch sometime during the festive season for later this year.
The test mule was still in camouflage, but from the first impression, it looks like the design notion for the Curvv iCNG will be similar to the design cues from the standard version. The lack of any visible emissions testing equipment implies that this prototype will, at least for the moment, not be undergoing the homologation part of the test, and instead was likely put through real-world component and performance tests.
Though probably no major design changes will take place, the CNG version is likely to have a few subtle styling changes, such as different aero inserts on the 18-inch alloy wheels, and an iCNG badge added to the tailgate.
Inside the Tata Curvv iCNG, we expect the entire equipment list from the petrol and diesel variants to carry over, with slight adjustments made to the instrument cluster:
The display must now show CNG information, such as tank levels and switching modes. Other than that, the spacious cabin, trendy infotainment system, and safety equipment is sure to be the same as the standard Curvv.
Under the hood, we expect the Curvv iCNG to use Tata's 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and dual-cylinder CNG setup also seen in the Tata Nexon iCNG. Overall, this engine offers a nice balance of performance and fuel economy - and should make the Curvv a cost-effective and practical fringe option for urban buyers once realised into CNG.
As petrol, diesel, and electric Curvv models are already revealed, the upcoming iCNG version highlights Tata's overall engagement to provide a wide range of clean mobility options. After the Altroz facelift and ahead of the Harrier EV launch, Tata looks like it is strategizing the Curvv iCNG for the festive period rush, to draw buyers looking towards premium fuel-efficient vehicles.
