Skoda Octavia RS Scores 5 Stars in ANCAP Crash Tests

- The Skoda Octavia RS has aced one of the world's most hard safety evaluations, locking in a flawless five-star rating across Australasian NCAP (ANCAP) crash test protocols.

- The results highlight excellent adult and child occupant safety, along with strong performance in crash avoidance and driver assistance systems.

The Skoda Octavia RS has secured a full 5-star safety rating in the latest ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) crash tests, reinforcing its reputation as one of the safest performance sedans in its segment. The result reflects strong structural integrity, advanced safety systems, and excellent crash protection performance.

The model tested is based on the global Skoda Octavia RS specification sold in Australia and other markets.

The Breakdown: How the Octavia RS Scored

The vehicle was rigorously evaluated across four primary crash testing parameters: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Vulnerable Road User (VRU) protection and Safety Assist (SA) technology.

Adult Occupant Protection (85%)

The Octavia RS scored 34.22 out of 40 points in adult safety. During the 60kph side impact test, the sedan provided flawless "Good" protection across all critical areas for the driver, racking up maximum points.

Additionally, the far-side impact and occupant-to-occupant mitigation tests passed with flying colours, thanks to a centre airbag that deployed precisely on time to prevent front occupants from colliding with each other.

Child Occupant Protection (81%)

Securing 40.04 out of 49 points, the car proved highly secure for younger passengers. In the 50kph frontal dynamic test, protection for the six-year-old dummy was rated as good overall.

Restraint installation safety scored a near-perfect 11.81 out of 12 points, indicating that child seats anchor easily and securely within the rear cabin layout.

Vulnerable Road User Protection (81%)

When mitigating collisions with pedestrians and cyclists, the Octavia RS logged 51.39 out of 63 points. The vehicle's active hood design provided excellent impact absorption for a pedestrian's head, while the bumper layout scored maximum points for protecting the femur and pelvis areas.

Safety Assist Technologies (82%)

Under current ANCAP rules, a vehicle cannot achieve five stars without highly capable autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems.

The Octavia RS delivered a dominant performance here, scoring a perfect 4 out of 4 in car-to-car AEB response and a near-perfect 3.95 out of 4 in complex junction and crossing scenarios.

Why this rating matters

A 5-star ANCAP rating is the highest safety score awarded by the organisation and serves as an important benchmark for buyers in Australia and other global markets.

For performance car buyers, the Octavia RS’s result is particularly significant, as it proves that sporty sedans can also deliver top-tier safety standards without compromise.

With this rating, Skoda further strengthens its position in the global performance sedan segment, offering a package that blends power, practicality, and safety in a single model.
