Revamped BMW i4: A Stunning Facelift for the Future of Electric Luxury

The BMW i4 has become one of the most popular versions to be revamped in the German brand’s international line-up. With over 83,000 sales, the i4 M50 xDrive solidified its status as the best-selling M model in 2022 and 2023. The i4 was the best-selling electric BMW globally last year. BMW has decided to cash in on this by making slight upgrades to the i4. Let's have a look at them.

External Improvements

The most popular electric car from the BMW lineup, the i4, has undergone a facelift that enhances its already remarkable design. The most obvious modification is the new chrome kidney grille, which gives the front end a more contemporary and unified appearance with its closed form, honeycomb pattern, and matte finish. Moreover, the headlamp and taillight designs have been updated to make them more streamlined and elegant. A glossy black diffuser at the back gives the M Sport version an added advantage and sports elements to the entire look.

Improvements to the Interior

The BMW i4's cabin has also been updated, with several noteworthy modifications. The gear selector now has a more compact appearance, resembling that of the SUVs iX1 and iX3. The previously side-by-side arrangement of the air vents has been replaced with a more contemporary and minimalist rotary switch method for controlling the airflow. BMW's most recent iDrive 8.5 infotainment system powers the sedan's screens, guaranteeing a smooth and modern user experience. Updates to the steering wheel include an M Sport variant's flat-bottomed shape and lighted buttons for improved functionality.

Powertrain Configuration

Three different powertrain combinations are offered for the BMW i4, each providing a special combination of efficiency and performance. The base variant, the i4 eDrive35, produces 400 Nm of torque and 282 horsepower. This version has an amazing 500 km range and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds.

Performance is increased with the i4 eDrive40, which produces 335 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. With a 5.6-second 0 to 100 km/h sprint time, this model has the longest range in the lineup—600 miles. All-wheel drive is added by the i4 xDrive40, which has 396 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. This version has a range of and can hit 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds.

The most potent model in the lineup, the i4 M50 xDrive, boasts 536 horsepower and a remarkable 795 Nm of torque. This high-performance model has a reasonable 522 km of range and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

India Launch Opportunities

Even though there hasn't been an official announcement yet, the new BMW i4 will likely arrive in India. The ex-showroom price of the i4 model, which was unveiled in May 2022, is ₹72.50 lakh for the lone eDrive40 variant. Although the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is not expected to arrive in India, it might cause a stir in the premium electric car market, where the i4 currently faces no direct competition. It's important to note that BMW just introduced the bigger i5 sedan in India, extending its selection of electric cars there.
