Renault Bigster Production-Spec Global Debut Next Month
Renault is preparing to reveal the production-ready version of the Dacia Bigster, a seven-seater SUV based on the Renault Duster. The Bigster will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show next month and is expected to eventually launch in India, where it will be badged as a Renault. This new model will mark Renault's entry into the competitive three-row SUV segment, offering a premium option in the growing market.
The Renault Bigster will share several components with the Duster, including the CMF-B platform, body panels, and some interior elements like seats, the dashboard, and mechanical features. However, the Bigster will stand out with its larger size and premium features. The SUV is expected to be around 4.6 meters in length, making it about 300mm longer than the two-row Duster.
Renault has focused on giving the Bigster a more premium feel to justify its higher price point. It will come with a slightly longer wheelbase and larger rear doors, similar to what Hyundai did with the Alcazar. The SUV is expected to feature upgraded materials, more creature comforts, and additional high-end features to cater to customers looking for a more luxurious experience in the segment.
The engine options for the Bigster are likely to be the same as those offered with the Duster. This includes a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, with both 4x2 and 4x4 options depending on the market. While the Bigster won't have a traditional 4x4 setup like more rugged off-roaders such as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, it will come with terrain modes such as Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-road, and Eco, making it capable of handling a variety of driving conditions.
In India, the new Duster is expected to return in the second half of 2025, and the Bigster will likely follow after the Duster's launch. Renault also plans to introduce Nissan derivatives of both the Duster and Bigster, further expanding its lineup in the Indian market.
Once launched, the Renault Bigster will face stiff competition from established players in the Indian market. Its rivals will include the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus. Meanwhile, the new Duster will take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and Toyota Hyryder.
The Renault Bigster is set to make a significant impact in the SUV market, offering a premium and spacious alternative to the existing Renault Duster. With its debut scheduled for next month’s Paris Motor Show, anticipation is building for its eventual launch in India. While Indian buyers will have to wait until after 2025 for the Bigster to arrive, its premium features, size, and competitive pricing are likely to make it a strong contender in the crowded SUV segment.
