Following the launch of the X-Trail, Nissan is set to bring the Ariya e-SUV to India in the coming months. The Ariya, which competes with the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4 in global markets, made its global debut in 2020 and has been spotted testing in India.
Design and Styling: The Ariya features a modern design with a distinctive coupe-like silhouette and a prominent shoulder line. Depending on the market, it sits on 19-inch or 20-inch wheels. The front design includes Nissan’s new 'design' shield and an illuminated logo in some markets.
Interior: The interior of the Ariya is minimalist, dominated by two large 12.3-inch screens with most functions controlled by a unique haptic control setup. Higher variants include a heads-up display and a Bose audio system.
Powertrains and Range: The Ariya offers both single-motor, rear-wheel-drive and twin-motor, four-wheel-drive configurations. There are two battery options: a 63kWh battery with 217hp and 300Nm of torque, offering a range of 402km, and an 87kWh battery producing 242hp and 300Nm, with a range up to 529km. The top-spec 87kWh model delivers 306hp and 600Nm of torque, with a range of up to 513km.
Technology and Safety: The Ariya is equipped with advanced driver assistance features, including an enhanced version of Nissan’s ProPilot system. It received a five-star crash-test rating from Euro NCAP in 2022.
The Ariya will likely be positioned at the top end of Nissan’s lineup in India, targeting the high-end SUV market. It will be sold in limited numbers, with the first batch of units already imported. More details are expected to emerge in the coming months. Nissan is also preparing for the launch of the X-Trail SUV, scheduled to go on sale on August 1.
The introduction of the Ariya is part of Nissan's strategy to expand its electric vehicle offerings in India, leveraging the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions.
