Next-Gen Land Rover Discovery to Get Petrol, Hybrid, and EV Powertrains

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is gearing up for a major overhaul of its [Discovery SUV(https://parkplus.io/new-cars/land-rover-car/discovery) brand. The current generation of the flagship Land Rover Discovery, which has been around since 2017, is set to be replaced by an all-new sixth-generation model that will feature petrol, hybrid, and electric powertrain options. This marks a significant shift as JLR seeks to reposition the Discovery with its own distinct identity, focusing on a "family adventure" theme.

Moving Away from the Defender

The next-gen Discovery will be designed to stand apart from the popular Defender, which has overshadowed the Discovery in recent years. Despite being one of the slowest-selling SUVs in JLR's lineup, with just 16,750 units sold globally last year, the Discovery is poised for a comeback with a fresh design and versatile powertrain options, positioning it uniquely in the market.

Potential Rival to Volkswagen ID. Buzz

The new Discovery may incorporate some MPV-like design elements, potentially setting it up as a future rival to models like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. It will be built on the versatile MLA platform, which is currently used for the flagship Range Rover and supports various powertrain configurations, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric.

Future-Proofing with Electric Powertrains

JLR has confirmed plans to introduce electric Land Rovers by 2026, and the new Discovery is expected to be among them. In addition to its diverse powertrain options, the Discovery will also have its own performance variant, following in the footsteps of the Defender Octa.

While the exact timeline for the new Discovery's debut remains unclear, it is anticipated to be unveiled internationally after the all-new Range Rover EV, which is expected to launch sometime in 2025. This next-gen Discovery is set to redefine the model's legacy and cater to a unique set of buyers looking for a versatile, family-oriented SUV.
