New Renault Kwid EV Spotted in India – What to Expect from This Budget Electric Hatchback

It looks like another future option of electric vehicles from Renault in India might arrive soon. A recently spotted heavily camouflaged unit, believed to be the new-generation Renault Kwid EV was spotted on a flatbed tow truck, in close proximity to Chennai airport.

Although Renault has not revealed an official launch date for the model, this sighting suggests that the French automaker could be introducing its affordable electric hatchback over the next few months onto Indian shores.

Likely to Be Based on the Global Dacia Spring EV

The model seen in India is likely to be the rebadged version of the Dacia Spring EV, which is already available in European markets. The new-generation Spring, which was unveiled last year, has an all-new exterior and a more premium interior, showing a dramatic move away from the former budget-oriented offerings.

Renault Kwid EV: Battery, Motor & Range

According to international sources, the new Kwid EV will most likely use a 26.8 kWh battery pack with two electric motor options: 44 bhp and 64 bhp. The range of the new Kwid EV is claimed to be around 220km on a single charge, with this range meeting the needs of an urban commuter.

Renault, in all likelihood, will offer the lower option motor on the entry and mid-level models, while 64 bhp will most likely be offered in the top-tier models.

Recharging

Charging options are another benefit of the Kwid EV. The Kwid EV will have both 7 kW AC wall box charging and 30 kW DC fast charging capabilities. Using the AC charger from 20% to 100% will take around four hours and 20% to 80% will take forty-five minutes using the DC fast charger.

Features Anticipated from the Global Model

Of the Spring EV, the Kwid EV should have features including a 10-inch touch screen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, cruise control, dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, and even ADAS features on higher variants.

Conclusion

While Renault confirmed an A-segment EV in India, there is no indication pertaining to the name of the model. Given the need for affordable electric vehicles, the Kwid EV would be a strong contender to fill this space, and we expect to hear an announcement for an official launch very soon.
