New Record set for selling Eco-Friendly cars: Hyundai and Kia sell 5 million cars

Hyundai and Kia have achieved a milestone by selling 5 million eco-cars globally. This accomplishment highlights the growing interest, among customers in transportation. In the year 2023, they sold 1.36 million vehicles with a focus on hybrid electric models. Looking ahead to 2024 the automakers aim to sell 1.5 million eco vehicles and are planning to introduce electric car models throughout the year.

Recent estimates indicate that over a span of 15 years, Hyundai and Kia two Korean automakers have collectively sold more than 5 million environmentally friendly cars worldwide. This figure includes cars (EVs) plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) hybrid electrics (HEVs) and fuel cell electrics (FCEVs) sold by both companies from 2009 up, to January 2024.

In 2023 Hyundai and Kia together sold 1.36 million eco-friendly vehicles maintaining a positive trend that saw them surpass one million units for the second consecutive year.

Based on the sales report, Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) accounted for 57.8% of sales followed by Electric Vehicles (EVs) at 30.8% and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) at 10.6%. Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs), at 0.8%. Some popular eco-friendly models that performed well globally include the Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, and Kia Niro.

Hyundai and Kia have jointly committed to selling 1.5 million vehicles worldwide by 2024. Hyundai is gearing up to launch an electric SUV inspired by the Casper later this year to enhance their product range. At the time Kia is preparing to unveil their all-electric EV3 model later this year expanding their electric vehicle lineup to meet the growing demand, for sustainable transportation options.
