New Petrol Mini Cooper JCW Revealed: Performance and Design Upgrades
Mini has officially unveiled the new John Cooper Works (JCW) hatchback and convertible, marking the top-tier, performance-oriented variants of the brand’s lineup. Based on the new Mini Cooper launched in India earlier this year, the JCW version brings enhanced power, design upgrades, and performance-focused features, making it stand out as the sportiest model in the range.
The new Mini John Cooper Works hatchback is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, shared with the standard Cooper. However, the JCW variant delivers a significant performance boost, producing 231hp and 380Nm of peak torque. This is an increase of 27hp and 80Nm over the standard Cooper, although the outputs remain the same as the previous JCW model.
Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) carried over from its predecessor, the Mini JCW can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 6.1 seconds. The convertible version achieves the same in 6.4 seconds. The hatchback has a top speed of 250kph, while the convertible can reach up to 245kph.
On the outside, the new Mini John Cooper Works showcases a more aggressive, sporty appearance compared to the standard Cooper. Some standout design features include:
Blacked-out front grille with the signature John Cooper Works logo in three colors.
Wide air vents for improved cooling and aerodynamics.
Unique JCW-specific LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) that set it apart from the standard model.
A new rear spoiler, a black rear diffuser, and a centrally mounted tailpipe for enhanced sporty appeal.
The JCW can be fitted with either 17-inch alloy wheels or optional 18-inch wheels, providing a choice for those seeking an extra level of customization. Inside, the JCW version boasts a bold red and black color scheme, enhancing its sporty feel. Key interior features include:
JCW sports seats upholstered in black synthetic leather with multi-colored knitted fabric and red stitching.
A JCW sports steering wheel offers a more engaging driving experience.
While the cabin layout remains similar to the standard Mini Cooper, these design touches add an exclusive, performance-focused touch to the interior.
In the UK, pricing for the new Mini John Cooper Works starts at GBP 31,200 (Rs 33.91 lakh). Mini has not yet confirmed the India launch date, but it's anticipated that the new JCW could arrive in Indian showrooms sometime next year.
As Mini continues to build on its performance legacy with the new John Cooper Works lineup, fans of the brand can look forward to even greater thrills on the road, with powerful performance and head-turning design elements that set this model apart. Keep an eye out for further announcements regarding its availability in India.
