New Maruti Car names are here, Escudo and Torqnado names trademarked in India

Maruti Suzuki's parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, has filed for two new trademarks that might serve as the names of its future models. Torqnado and Escudo are the two names.

Although Suzuki uses the Escudo nameplate for the Vitara SUV in Japan, the Torqnado name is brand-new. The models that will receive these names in India are not yet officially confirmed. When the all-electric eVX is unveiled later this year, it will be the automaker's first EV and the Torqnado name may be applied to it.

In other news, Maruti Suzuki is now testing the next-generation Dzire and Swift, which will both make their national debuts in the upcoming months. Notably, just earlier this week, the new Dzire was spotted sporting an electric sunroof—a first for the segment.

Maruti Suzuki: Future Releases

In the next four years, Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce eight new cars, some of which will be facelifts or updates of existing models, such as the Swift and Dzire. The eVX, an all-electric concept that Maruti Suzuki unveiled at the Auto Expo, is scheduled to be one of the launches. The production version of the vehicle is probably going to have the same name.

Maruti Suzuki: Next Launch

The Dzire, which has begun testing in India, and the Swift facelift are Maruti Suzuki's upcoming releases for the Indian market. The Dzire facelift, which will be based on the Swift and made its debut during the Tokyo Mobility Show, was the most recent sighting.

Other models to keep an eye out for include the Grand Vitara's seven-seater variant, an electric hatchback for the mass market, an MPV that runs on electricity, a compact MPV with three rows that rivals the Renault Triber, and an SUV that will go up against the Tata Punch.

The next-generation Dzire and Swift will be the first to go on sale out of all the new models planned. The country is currently testing both models, and the launch is anticipated to occur in a few months. By late 2024, the eVX will go into production, and it will go on sale in early 2025. From 2025 on, the other models will gradually follow.
