New-Gen Skoda Kodiaq Spied Uncamouflaged: India Launch Nears

Skoda Auto India is gearing up to launch the luxurious 7-seater SUV, new-generation Kodiaq, in India. The company has now issued an official teaser for the upcoming SUV on its social media handles, along with a clear "Coming Soon" message. Adding weight to this are the recent spy shots pouring in from Pune, showing the Sportline and Laurin & Klement (L&K) variants undisguised, indicating that the India launch is just on the verge.

Aggressive Launch Strategy within CKD Benefit

Different from its competitor Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line that will come to India by the more expensive CBU (Completely Built-Up) mode, Skoda will locally assemble Kodiaq in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits. This should help to keep the prices of Kodiaq within certain limits, making it a very attractive proposition in this premium SUV segment. It will rival the likes of Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner and, of course, Tiguan R-Line.

A New Skin with More Features

The second-generation Kodiaq feels familiar with the Skoda family look, yet it brings with it the latest spearhead of design language. But the biggest difference is really felt inside, where it absorbs the new Skoda Superb lines. This includes the floating infotainment screen, multipurpose climate control knobs, and, at the higher end, ventilated and massaging seats.

In length, it measures 4758 mm in length, 1864 mm in width and 1659 mm in height, riding on a wheelbase of 2791 mm and with a ground clearance of 192 mm, aptly suited to Indian road conditions.

Variants and Performance

Skoda is likely to offer the Kodiaq in the Sportline, L&K, and an RS performance-oriented trim. If launched, the RS variant might be a CBU like the Octavia RS.

In terms of engine options, it is likely that all variants will feature a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine rated at around 190 PS and 320 Nm, linked to a 7-speed DSG and an AWD (All-Wheel Drive) layout.

With the new Kodiaq, Skoda is poised to offer a balanced blend of practicality, performance, and European sophistication — tailored for Indian roads.
