New Bentley Continental GT and GTC Revealed
Bentley has unveiled the new Continental GT and its convertible counterpart, the GTC. Though it's based on the previous model's MSB platform, Bentley describes it as a new fourth-gen model due to significant updates, particularly under the hood.
Revealed in Spain, the new GT retains the iconic Continental shape but introduces a significant departure in design. The signature twin-headlight setup is replaced with singular oval units featuring an eyelash-style DRL, reminiscent of the Bentley Batur. The intricate diamond pattern in the headlight units complements the diamond mesh grille, which now includes a radar dome and camera for new ADAS capabilities. The long bonnet, flared rear fenders, and standard 22-inch rims enhance its classic yet modern appeal. Notably, the active rear spoiler has been removed, and replaced by a more pronounced flared boot lid with an integrated spoiler.
Inside, the new GT maintains its luxurious and high-quality interior. Signature elements like the organ stop AC vent controllers and the triple-rotating center panel are retained. The panel allows switching between analog dials, a touchscreen, or a solid surface matching the dashboard. New features include an ADAS package with an ‘environmental awareness’ display, built-in apps like Spotify, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2+2 seating configuration features diamond quilting and 'Speed' variant embroidery, with highly customizable interior color options.
The most notable change is the switch to a plug-in hybrid V8, replacing the traditional W12 engine. The 4.0-liter V8 engine produces 600hp and 800Nm, while the gearbox-integrated electric motor adds 190hp and 450Nm, resulting in a combined output of 782hp and 1,000Nm of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with active torque vectoring managed by the center differential and brakes.
The new Continental GT boasts impressive performance stats: 0 to 100kph in 3.2 seconds, 0 to 160kph in 6.9 seconds, and a top speed of 335kph. It includes a pure EV mode with a range of up to 80km and speeds up to 160kph. The braking system features 420mm front and 380mm rear discs, likely the largest cast iron brakes on any production car. Suspension duties are managed by air springs and twin-valve dampers.
The new Bentley Continental GT is expected to launch in India towards the end of this year, with an estimated price of around Rs 6 crore. It will compete with the Ferrari 12Cilindri and the Aston Martin Vanquish.
The new Continental GT and GTC promise a blend of classic Bentley luxury with cutting-edge hybrid performance, setting a new standard for the iconic grand tourer.
