MG Windsor EV: A Stylish, Feature-Packed Crossover Set to Electrify India’s EV Market

MG Motor India is all set to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the highly anticipated MG Windsor EV. Expected to make its debut on September 11, the Windsor EV will be the third electric offering from the company, following the success of the ZS EV and the smaller Comet EV. The Windsor EV is positioned as a strong competitor in the electric crossover segment, going head-to-head with popular models like the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400. With a projected starting price of Rs 20 lakh, the MG Windsor EV promises to deliver a blend of style, performance, and advanced features that are sure to appeal to Indian buyers.

Striking Design and Futuristic Appeal

The MG Windsor EV is a stylish crossover that draws much of its design inspiration from the Wuling Cloud EV, which is already sold in international markets. The Windsor is set to feature a modern, minimalist design, with clean lines and a futuristic look that will likely turn heads on the road. The front fascia of the Windsor EV is dominated by a connected LED DRL (Daytime Running Light) strip that stretches across the width of the car, giving it a sleek and aggressive stance. Below the DRL, the headlamps are positioned lower, adding a unique touch to its overall design.

The Windsor EV's side profile remains simple and sophisticated, with smooth contours and understated elegance. At the rear, the connected LED tail lights enhance the crossover's futuristic appearance, giving it a sense of symmetry and balance. Overall, the design philosophy behind the Windsor EV is both contemporary and clean, making it an attractive option for eco-conscious buyers who want to stand out on the road.

Premium Cabin with Tech-Savvy Features

Step inside the MG Windsor EV, and you'll be greeted by a premium all-black cabin that exudes a sense of modern luxury. Bronze inserts around the interior add a touch of refinement, while the wooden trim insert on the dashboard elevates the overall aesthetic. The flat-bottom steering wheel, another stylish element, not only looks sporty but also enhances the driving experience.

One of the standout features of the Windsor EV's interior is its rear seat comfort. With a reclining angle of up to 135 degrees and a center armrest, rear passengers can expect a relaxed and comfortable ride, making it ideal for long journeys.

MG is known for equipping its vehicles with top-tier features, and the Windsor EV is no exception. The crossover is expected to boast a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, providing seamless connectivity and entertainment options. Additionally, an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display will offer real-time driving information, keeping the driver informed and in control at all times. Wireless phone charging, electrically adjustable front seats, and an electric tailgate are just a few of the convenience features that are likely to be included in the Windsor EV.

On the safety front, the Windsor EV will come equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and a 360-degree camera, ensuring the safety of both the driver and passengers. The vehicle is also expected to offer a range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking, which will enhance the driving experience and provide an extra layer of protection.

Battery, Range, and Performance

When it comes to performance, the MG Windsor EV is expected to pack a punch. While the Wuling Cloud EV in Indonesia comes with a 50.6 kWh battery pack, the Indian-spec Windsor EV will likely feature a slightly smaller 38 kWh unit. Despite the smaller battery, the Windsor EV is expected to deliver a decent range, with ARAI certification expected to provide the official figures.

The international version of the Wuling Cloud EV claims a range of 460 km, but the Windsor EV's range could vary slightly based on Indian conditions and testing cycles. The Windsor EV is also expected to carry over the Wuling Cloud’s electric motor, delivering 136 PS (approximately 134 horsepower) and 200 Nm of torque, ensuring smooth acceleration and a responsive driving experience.

Competitive Pricing and Rivals

With a starting price expected to be around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG Windsor EV will be positioned as a strong contender in the electric crossover market. It will compete with the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400, both of which have already established themselves as popular choices among Indian EV buyers. However, with its stylish design, premium features, and advanced safety tech, the Windsor EV could carve out its own niche in the market.

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow in India, the MG Windsor EV is poised to offer an exciting and competitive option for buyers looking to make the switch to electric mobility. With bookings already being accepted at select MG dealerships, anticipation is building ahead of its official price announcement on September 11. All eyes are on the Windsor EV as it prepares to electrify the Indian market and further strengthen MG's position in the EV segment.
