MG Motor India March 2026 Sales Report, Windsor EV Leads, Comet Records 294 Per Cent YoY Growth
  • MG Motor India posted 6,528 wholesale units in March 2026, with electric vehicles accounting for 5,623 units of the total, reflecting a decisive tilt towards electrification.

  • The Windsor EV topped both MG's internal sales charts and India's overall EV sales ranking, whilst the Comet EV recorded a standout 294 per cent year-on-year growth.

JSW MG Motor India wrapped up the first quarter of the new financial year on a high, posting wholesale figures of 6,528 units in March 2026. That represents a 19 per cent improvement over the 5,501 units sold in March 2025, and an even more impressive 31 per cent jump from the 4,957 units recorded in February 2026.

For a brand that has been steadily building its identity around electric mobility, these numbers provide a meaningful vote of confidence.

Electric Vehicles Power the Numbers, ICE Models Retreat

The headline story from MG's March performance is the sheer weight of electric vehicles within its overall sales mix. EVs contributed 5,623 units to the total tally, posting a 20.41 per cent year-on-year increase and a remarkable 54.39 per cent month-on-month surge.

ICE models, meanwhile, accounted for just 905 units, growing by a relatively modest 8.9 per cent year-on-year but falling 31.18 per cent compared to February. The direction of travel is unmistakably clear ,petrol and diesel are losing ground, and electric is firmly in the ascendant.

The Windsor EV was the clear standout of the month. Selling 4,530 units in March 2026, it topped MG's own sales charts and simultaneously claimed the title of India's best-selling electric car for the month, all while registering a 24 percent year-on-year improvement.

The Hector range, MG's enduring ICE offering, performed creditably with 850 units, recording a 55 per cent year-on-year recovery, though figures dipped slightly compared to February. The real surprise of the month, however, belonged to the Comet EV.

MG's compact urban electric runabout moved 682 units, delivering a stunning 294 per cent year-on-year increase, even as month-on-month figures held steady.

The ZS EV added 411 units to the overall tally, with gains recorded on both a year-on-year and month-on-month basis. Bringing up the rear was the Astor, which managed 55 units but slipped slightly from its February performance.

MG's Road Ahead, PHEVs, New SUVs and Continued EV Expansion

With EVs now representing the overwhelming majority of MG's volumes, the company is doubling down on its electrification ambitions. A PHEV is expected to arrive in India around August to September 2026, marking a new chapter for the brand in this market.

Looking further, the MG Starlight SUV is being readied with both EV and PHEV powertrain options, positioning it as a direct challenger to the Mahindra XUV700 and the Tata Harrier.

As the March figures demonstrate, MG Motor India is not merely participating in the EV revolution; it is actively shaping it. Whether this momentum can be sustained through the remainder of 2026 will be well worth watching?
