MG IM6 Electric SUV Coupe Confirmed for India Launch in 2026
  • The IM6 will be the third model sold under MG's premium Select retail channel, following the Cyberster roadster and M9 MPV.

  • It features a 100kWh battery pack, an 800V electrical architecture, and up to 555km of WLTP-rated range in its rear-wheel-drive guise.

A Premium Addition to the MG Select Line-up

JSW-MG Motor India has confirmed that the IM6 electric SUV coupe will go on sale in the country this year, with bookings expected to open in July. Reports place the launch either in August or October 2026, with the two timelines sourced separately from different industry reports. The car will sit as the entry-level product within the brand's MG Select retail channel, which currently houses the Cyberster roadster and the M9 MPV. Like its stablemates, the IM6 will arrive as a completely built-up unit, with no local assembly involved.

Pricing is expected to fall in the Rs 60 to 70 lakh bracket, and the car is likely to be offered in a single, fully loaded variant. This approach keeps the proposition straightforward, ensuring buyers get the full suite of technology and features without having to navigate a trim hierarchy.

The IM brand itself was founded in 2020 as an electric-only venture by SAIC Motor, e-commerce giant Alibaba, and research and development specialists Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. The IM6 first caught India's attention when it was showcased at Auto Expo 2025, and the encouraging response to the Cyberster and M9 appears to have given MG the confidence to push ahead with the introduction.

What Powers the IM6

Battery, Range, and Charging Capability

The IM6 is built around a 100kWh battery pack and uses an 800V electrical architecture in its top specification. The rear-wheel-drive version produces approximately 401bhp and 500 Nm of torque. Its WLTP-rated range stands at 555km, while the claimed figure under the Chinese test cycle is a higher 625km.

The all-wheel-drive variant steps things up considerably, generating close to 741bhp and 802Nm, with a claimed range of 505km. Claimed 0 to 100kph times stand at 5.4 seconds for the RWD and a brisk 3.4 seconds for the AWD. Which configurations MG will bring to India has not yet been confirmed.

The 800V architecture also enables DC fast charging at up to 396kW, allowing the battery to go from 30 to 80 per cent in just over 15 minutes.

Design and Interior Technology

Visually, the IM6 breaks away from the conventional upright SUV mould. It carries the sleek proportions of a coupe crossover, with smooth, aerodynamically optimised body panels, large L-shaped LED headlamps, and a full-width light bar at the rear. Colour choices for India are expected to include Arctic White, Black Pearl Metallic, Nevis Blue Metallic, and Rembrandt Grey Metallic, though the interior will be offered only in a white theme.

Inside, the cabin is dominated by a sweeping 26.3-inch panoramic display setup, joined by a vertical 10.5-inch screen. Features include a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, touch-operated air-conditioning controls, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, reclining rear seats, a comprehensive ADAS suite, four-wheel steering, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless mobile charger. The international specification also includes ultra-long-range LiDAR alongside NVIDIA Orin X and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processors.

Globally, the IM6 competes alongside the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6 in the premium electric crossover segment. Whether the India pricing will help it compete meaningfully in this space remains to be seen, but as a technology showcase for the MG Select range, the IM6 makes a compelling case.
