JSW MG (with the name of MG Motor India) prepares to launch a serious contender in the premium EV market of India. The firm has recently opened its first MG Select outlet in Thane, Mumbai, in which it unveiled two of its most-awaited models: the MG Cyberster and MG M9.
Though the pricing has not been revealed, the bookings have started and the interested customers' mood is in the sky now.
The two vehicles have elicited a great reception on MG, according to insider sources. The deliveries should also start shortly following the announcement of the price, which should be made within a few weeks.
Nonetheless, as of yet, it will not be possible to fulfill future bookings until December next year, 2025, which translates to demand and early shortage.
MG M9, an all-electric MPV dedicated to the high-end urban movement, will enter the market earlier than Cyberster. The M9 will come in through the semi-knocked down (SKD) path and hence can be partially assembled in India. This would assist MG to put a better, competitive price on an M9 in comparison to an entire import.
The flashy, 2-door electric convertible MG Cyberster, on the other hand, is going to be imported in a fully built car unit (CBU). This VW-designed sports electronic model is intended to take open-top electric motoring to the Indian community, a niche market that sees exclusivity and performance as key sales factors.
On the official prices, those are yet under wraps, but it is highly expected that both the M9 and Cyberster will cost below Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom), and some reports are setting the price to begin near Rs 70 lakh. These prices would place them in the high-end EV segment to rival high-end models of vehicles such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The two premium electric vehicles will lead to an exciting beginning of the second chapter of MG in India, with the expansion of its product and retail network, the MG Select showrooms. Video specifications and final prices expected to be announced soon.
