Mercedes-Benz Unveils Project Maybach at Nita Mukesh Ambani Centre
Mercedes-Benz has introduced an innovative electric concept car called Project Maybach at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai. This unique car was developed by Gorden Wagener and the late Virgil Abloh. Mercedes-Benz has shown off this rare concept car in India four times now, the other three being the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, AMG GT, and Electric G-Class. The Project Maybach is a two-seater off-road coupé that combines unusual features and big off-road wheels with the bodywork of a Gran Turismo. It runs on batteries.
The Project Maybach is designed to embody the spirit of adventure while maintaining the luxury of a coupé. The car’s exterior is wrapped in a sandy monotone, giving it a robust and utilitarian look. It features a striking chrome grille and a large roof rack that can hold a tent, making it suitable for outdoor excursions. The headlights and protruding taillights add to its futuristic appeal. The car’s nose, located behind a large glass panel, offers a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Mercedes-Maybach grille, enhancing its unique appearance.
Inside, the Project Maybach transforms the traditional car cabin into a modular hotel room. The seats can be converted into a first-class flatbed, providing ultimate comfort for long journeys. The interior is designed with polished aluminium and ultra-soft sandy leather, tanned naturally with coffee shells to minimize environmental impact. The headrests, featuring a jacquard houndstooth finish, can double as blankets, adding a touch of versatility. Cleverly designed compartments house reading lights and the seats can be removed and used as high-end tent furniture. The dashboard seamlessly blends digital and analogue elements, highlighting the car’s advanced design and functionality.
The Project Maybach will be on display at the NMACC until October 2024, allowing visitors to experience the innovative design and craftsmanship of this concept car. Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, expressed excitement about showcasing such an exquisite vehicle at the Centre. Project Maybach was first launched during Miami Art Week on December 1, 2021. This car represents the second collaboration between Gorden Wagener and Virgil Abloh, showcasing innovative elements like solar cells hidden under its transparent hood, which enhance its range. The Project Maybach not only highlights Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to luxury and innovation but also pays homage to the visionary work of the late Virgil Abloh.
