How the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV debut would affect the luxury EV industry in India.
The new electric sedan's key characteristics, range, styling, and anticipated location.
The all-electric CLA EV, a major addition to Mercedes-Benz's lineup of high-end electric vehicles in India, would be introduced in April 2026, the company has formally declared. The popular CLA moniker is brought back to life in the CLA EV, which is anticipated to replace the company's existing A-Class sedan in the local lineup.
With its aerodynamic lines and high-end design features, the new CLA EV has a remarkable coupe-style appearance. It has a contemporary and dynamic appearance on the road thanks to its aerodynamic alloy wheels, flush-fit door handles, closed-off front grille with linked LED lighting, and frameless doors. Compared to earlier CLA models, the car is bigger, giving it a roomy sensation and a daring driving position.
With a computerized cockpit and the possibility of a triple-screen display arrangement, the interior of the cabin places a strong focus on elegance and technology. Premium seating, a panoramic roof, linked automobile technology, and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are anticipated features that demonstrate Mercedes' emphasis on comfort and innovation.
The lengthy driving range of the CLA EV is one of its most discussed advantages. The car's international versions, which are powered by an 85 kWh battery pack, claim WLTP statistics of up to 792 km on a single charge for the rear-wheel-drive model and about 771 km for the all-wheel-drive model. The CLA EV is one of the world's longest-range electric sedans based on these numbers.
DC fast charging of up to 320 kW is made possible by the vehicle's 800-volt electrical architecture. This fast charging system may, in theory, restore a sizable range in a matter of minutes, which is always a major worry for EV purchasers.
Mercedes-Benz is probably going to launch the rear-wheel-drive model initially, with the potential of adding the all-wheel-drive version later based on demand, even though India-specific technical specs and pricing have not yet been formally disclosed. In the Indian market, the CLA EV will compete with other high-end EVs, offering consumers seeking a luxury EV with robust performance, cutting-edge technology, and a long range a new option.
