Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric India Debut With 792km Range Launches April 2025
  • Complete technical specifications, design highlights, and interior features of the India-spec Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric.

  • Launch timeline, expected pricing, and how it compares against rivals in the premium electric sedan segment.

The CLA Electric represents more than just a new model; it's a complete reimagination of Mercedes-Benz's approach to entry-luxury vehicles. Replacing the outgoing A-Class Limousine along with the EQA and EQB electric SUVs, this sleek four-door becomes the single point of entry for those seeking the three-pointed star in a compact package. Bookings to commence from March 10, with the official launch scheduled for April 2026.

Built from the ground up on Mercedes' new Modular Architecture (MMA), the CLA marks the first production vehicle to utilise this clever platform designed to accommodate both electric and combustion powertrains.

For India, Mercedes is bringing the all-electric variant exclusively, with expected pricing between Rs 55-60 lakh (ex-showroom). Production takes place at the manufacturer's Rastatt facility in Germany, with India-bound models featuring special adaptations including raised ground clearance and suspension tuning specifically calibrated for our road conditions.

Engineering Excellence Under the Skin

Power Meets Efficiency

At the heart of the CLA Electric lies an 800-volt electrical architecture, a technology trickled down from the ultra-efficient Vision EQXX concept car. The India-spec CLA 250+ variant employs an 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 272bhp.

Unlike conventional electric vehicles that rely on a single-speed reduction gearbox, Mercedes has fitted the CLA with a two-speed transmission, a setup previously seen on high-performance machines like the Porsche Taycan.

This isn't about straight-line speed, though the CLA manages a respectable 0-100kph sprint in 6.7 seconds. Rather, the dual-ratio gearbox optimises the motor's operating efficiency across different speed ranges, contributing significantly to the headline-grabbing 792km range figure on the WLTP test cycle.

Mercedes claims an impressive 93 per cent drivetrain efficiency, which translates to extracting maximum distance from every kilowatt-hour stored in the battery.

Charging at Lightning Speed

The CLA Electric's high-voltage architecture enables DC fast charging at rates up to 240kW.

Under ideal conditions, Mercedes claims the battery can regain 400km of range in just 20 minutes, enough time for a coffee break during long journeys. This charging capability positions the CLA amongst the fastest-charging vehicles in its segment, addressing one of the primary concerns potential EV buyers harbour about electric motoring.

Design That Turns Heads

The CLA Electric showcases Mercedes' latest design language whilst maintaining the coupe-like silhouette that's become synonymous with the nameplate. At the front, a sealed-off grille features 142 individually illuminated three-pointed stars, a theatrical touch that's quintessentially Mercedes. The star motif continues into the headlamps and tail-lamps, creating a cohesive visual signature.

Aerodynamics played a crucial role in achieving such a remarkable range. The CLA boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.21, aided by flush door handles, carefully sculpted bodywork, and optimised airflow management.

Despite growing 30mm in length, 25mm in width, and 25mm in height compared to its predecessor, the CLA manages to slip through the air more efficiently than ever before. Standard fitment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, whilst a panoramic glass roof with heat-protective coating comes fitted to combat India's intense summers.

Technology Takes Centre Stage

Step inside, and the CLA Electric reveals its party piece: Mercedes' brand-new MB.OS operating system making its debut. The India-spec model features a 10.25-inch digital driver's display paired with a 14-inch central touchscreen, deliberately eschewing the full triple-display 'Superscreen' setup found on higher variants. Instead, a glass panel with LED-backlit star logos occupies the passenger side, synchronizing with the ambient lighting to create an upscale atmosphere.

The cabin comes equipped with wireless smartphone charging, six 100W USB-C fast-charging ports scattered throughout, and rear seats. The AMG Line styling package arrives as standard, bringing a sporty steering wheel festooned with tactile controls. Over-the-air software updates ensure the car stays current with the latest features and improvements throughout its lifecycle.

Boot space measures a useful 405 litres, with a 101-litre storage compartment up front where the engine would traditionally reside. This additional luggage space proves handy for keeping charging cables or small parcels separate from the main boot.

Safety First

Though yet to face Bharat NCAP testing, the CLA Electric earned a full five-star rating from Euro NCAP in 2025. Safety equipment includes multiple airbags (front, side, and centre), along with a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite utilizing both camera and radar technology to assist the driver.
