Maruti Suzuki is aiming to sell 6 lakh CNG cars, and SUVs in 2024; Here’s how

Maruti Suzuki is committed to promoting eco fuels and reducing its environmental impact by setting a goal to sell over 600,000 CNG vehicles in the fiscal year 2025. This ambitious objective aims to surpass the fiscal year's CNG vehicle sales by more than 30%, which amounted to 450,000 units in FY2024.

After reviewing the Q4 results of FY2024, Maruti Suzukis Chairman R.C. Bhargava emphasized the company's dedication to increasing CNG sales across all its operations. Apart from boosting CNG car and SUV sales, Maruti Suzuki is also considering utilizing gas for generating electricity to power its manufacturing facilities.

In FY2024 the CNG vehicle sector achieved a milestone by exceeding half a million units for the first time with Maruti Suzuki leading this progress. The adoption of CNG vehicles in the market rose from 10% in FY2023 to 15% in FY2024. Notably, one out of every four cars sold by Maruti Suzuki that year was equipped with a CNG engine.

The overall market for CNG vehicles reached 624,000 units in FY2024 marking a growth of 15% largely fueled by Maruti Suzuki's initiatives. The company's CNG division experienced a growth rate of over 50% reaching 455,000 units and securing a market share of more, than 73% within the overall CNG market.

Maruti Suzuki provides a variety of CNG cars starting from the Alto K10 to the spacious Grand Vitara SUV with prices ranging between Rs 5.74 lakh and Rs 14.96 lakh in Delhi.

The increasing availability of CNG vehicles from manufacturers like Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India along with the expansion of city gas distribution networks in India has led to a surge, in the popularity of CNG vehicles. The Indian government aims to establish 10,000 CNG stations by 2030 to support the growth of this eco-transportation option.
