Mahindra’s July 2024 Sales Surge: Scorpio, XUV3XO, and XUV700 Lead the Charge

Mahindra & Mahindra has made significant strides in the Indian automotive market, posting a remarkable 25% year-on-year (YoY) and 4% month-on-month (MoM) growth in July 2024. The company has elevated its market share to an impressive 12.1%, reinforcing its position as the fourth-best-selling automaker in India, trailing only behind Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors. Notably, Mahindra and Toyota were the sole automakers in the Indian market to showcase both YoY and MoM growth alongside an improved market share for July 2024.

Mahindra Sales Breakup: YoY Performance

In July 2024, Mahindra’s total sales reached 41,523 units, marking a robust 15% increase compared to the 36,205 units sold in July 2023. Leading the charge was the Mahindra Scorpio, which retained its top spot with 12,237 units sold, reflecting a solid 16% YoY growth from the 10,522 units sold in the same month last year. The Scorpio's enhanced appeal is attributed to the addition of new features such as ventilated seats and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, elevating its attractiveness to buyers.

The Mahindra XUV300 followed with a dramatic 121% YoY growth, selling 10,000 units compared to 4,533 units in July 2023. This increase is partly due to the introduction of a new Sports Edition, which has bolstered its appeal in the sub-4 meter SUV segment.

The Mahindra XUV700 also saw substantial growth, with sales reaching 7,769 units—a 26% increase from the 6,176 units sold in July 2023. This growth comes amidst a backdrop of Mahindra's efforts to make the XUV700 more appealing by offering significant discounts on the fully loaded AX7 range, in celebration of three years of the XUV700 and the production milestone of 200,000 units.

However, not all models shared in this positive trajectory. The Mahindra Bolero experienced a decline of 22% YoY, with 6,930 units sold compared to 8,921 units in July 2023. Similarly, the Mahindra Thar faced a 17% YoY drop, with sales falling to 4,385 units from 5,265 units. The XUV400 and Marazzo reported significant declines as well, with YoY sales down by 59% and 83%, respectively.

Mahindra Sales Breakup: MoM Performance

On a month-on-month basis, Mahindra’s sales saw a 4% increase from the 40,022 units sold in June 2024. The Scorpio experienced a slight dip of 1% compared to June’s 12,307 units, yet it remained a strong performer. The XUV300 saw an 18% increase in sales from the 8,500 units sold in June, reflecting its growing popularity.

The XUV700 recorded a 31% increase in sales from the 5,928 units sold in June 2024, buoyed by Mahindra's aggressive pricing strategies and discounts. The company is currently offering up to ₹2.2 lakh off on the top-tier XUV700 AX7 variant, driving additional sales.

Conversely, both the Bolero and Thar faced MoM declines. Bolero sales dipped by 6% from the 7,365 units sold in June, while Thar sales fell by 18% from 5,376 units in June. The XUV400 also saw a significant 46% MoM decline, although the Marazzo experienced a modest improvement of 17% over the 12 units sold in June.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Mahindra is gearing up for an exciting lineup of new launches. The Thar Roxx 5-seater is set to debut on August 15, 2024. Additionally, Mahindra is testing several new electric vehicles, including the BE.05, XUV700 EV, and XUV700 EV Coupe. Spied prototypes of the new XUV400 EV suggest an expansion of Mahindra's electric vehicle portfolio, with these models expected to make a substantial impact in the coming year.

Mahindra’s strategic moves in July 2024, including enhancements to existing models and new product launches, underscore its commitment to strengthening its position in the Indian automotive market. With a blend of innovative features, competitive pricing, and a robust lineup of future models, Mahindra is poised to continue its upward trajectory in the months to come.
