Mahindra XUV3XO EV Spied Testing Ahead of Launch – Nexon EV Rival Incoming

The upcoming Mahindra XUV3XO EV, which was recently spotted during road testing in Gujarat, is perhaps a final push at getting the tree to branch into an EV presence for the sub-4m SUV market.

The vehicle signals what Mahindra sees as a big push in its EV strategy, moving from a larger and heavier EV with the XUV400 to a more compact, cheaper model, one especially geared against the Tata Nexon EV, the best-selling electric SUV in India.

Design and Spy Shot Details

Spotted on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad Highway by enthusiast Mayur Sinh Rana, the test mule camouflaged heavily. Nevertheless, the silhouette and design closely mimic that of the ICE-XUV3XO introduced last year.

The EV is likely to share almost everything inside and out from sheet metal panels to plastic trims, an approach not only to keep manufacturing simple but also cost-effective.

Mahindra has tried to save a few feet of space over the XUV400 (4.2m), but smart packaging has helped in offering a significantly larger boot: up from 257L in the XUV400 to 364L in the sub-4m version, which must now make do with a slimmer spare wheel.

Features and Interiors

Mahindra is expected to carry over all premium bits available on the XUV3XO ICE version in the EV, such as:

  • 10.2-inch infotainment system

  • 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Level-2 ADAS using camera-based assistance

  • 360-degree cameras

  • Powered driver seat

  • Rear AC vents and dual-zone climate control

  • Cruise control, leatherette upholstery, etc.

Expect to see a probably subtle shade of blue or copper as an EV identity, but overall one of the most premium cabins in this segment.

Battery, Range & Performance

Mahindra is expected to offer two battery pack options:

  • 34.5 kWh with the range of ~ 375 km;

  • 39.4 KWh with a range of ~ 456 km.

The motor on the EV is expected to be a powerful unit developing 150 PS and 310 Nm of torque for a thrilling acceleration experience. Hence, considering the lowered size in contrast to the XUV400, the EV could be on the lighter side, thus granting better power, performance, and efficiency.

Expected Launch Timeline

The XUV3XO EV is expected to launch sometime during the auspicious festive season in India. A strong contender to Tata Nexon EV, given its expected high performance, premium features, and pricing, is expected to go a long way in furthering Mahindra's mass-market electric ambitions.
