Mahindra Verifies Two More ICE SUVs for 2026 as Sales of Electric Vehicles Exceed 41,000 Units
  • Mahindra intends to revamp its Scorpio and Thar models and introduce two additional internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs in 2026.

  • Despite selling more than 41,000 EV SUVs in just ten months, the business has no plans to introduce any more EVs in 2026.

With the introduction of new products and remarkable sales figures for electric vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra, one of India's top SUV manufacturers, is preparing for a busy 2030.

Following the XUV 7XO's early-year launch, the company has announced that it will launch two more SUVs using internal combustion engines this year.

New Beginnings for Thar and Scorpio

Updated Scorpio models are anticipated to be the first of the next releases. This will apply to the Scorpio N as well as the Scorpio Classic, with improvements centred on functionality and design rather than significant mechanical adjustments.

A panoramic sunroof and a triple-screen arrangement are likely to be included in the Scorpio N makeover, which will retain the vehicle's current 2.0-litre gasoline and 2.2-litre diesel engines.

Mahindra has a major update planned for the 3-door Thar in addition to the Scorpio revisions. It is anticipated that this off-road favourite, which last received new features in 2025, will receive both exterior and interior design updates.

A new Vision T-based Thar may debut in 2027, and this facelift may be the last significant modification for this generation.

Success of Electric SUVs, But No New EVs This Year

With its eSUV lineup, Mahindra has been making significant progress in the electric vehicle market. Buyers have shown a strong preference for models like the XEV 9S, XEV 9e, and BE 6, which together have sold over 41,000 electric SUVs in just ten months.

Mahindra has said that it will not launch any new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for the rest of 2026, despite this momentum. With plans to increase EV offers starting in 2027, the emphasis will instead continue to be on the present lineup.

Mahindra's 2026 roadmap offers more options and updated versions of well-known favourites for enthusiasts of conventional petrol and diesel SUVs. Updated Scorpios and Thars with more features are something that owners and potential buyers may anticipate.

Even if the manufacturer pauses new launches to focus on demand for existing models and prepares a larger EV push in future years, electric SUV aficionados can find solace in the impressive sales figures already attained.
