The Thar Roxx AX3L is part of Mahindra's strategic expansion of the Thar range, which now includes a 5-door model launched earlier this month. This new model variant is designed to cater to a broader audience, offering a combination of style, performance, and technology. Priced starting at Rs 16.99 lakh, the Thar Roxx AX3L is offered exclusively with a 2WD diesel manual powertrain, making it an enticing choice for urban adventurers and off-road enthusiasts alike.
The Thar Roxx AX3L retains the iconic design language of the Thar but introduces a few unique elements that set it apart. In the recently released TV commercial, the Thar Roxx AX3L is showcased in a striking black shade, which emphasizes its commanding road presence. Mahindra offers the Thar Roxx AX3L in seven color options, including Stealth Black, Deep Forest, Tango Red, Everest White, Nebula Blue, Battleship Grey, and Burnt Sienna. Each color option brings out a different facet of the Thar's personality, allowing buyers to choose according to their preferences.
A noteworthy aspect of the Thar Roxx AX3L's exterior is the decision to equip it with R18 steel wheels, a departure from the alloy wheels seen in higher variants. While some may find the steel wheels to be less visually appealing, they align with the Thar's rugged and utilitarian image. Those who prefer alloy wheels will need to opt for the MX5 or higher variants, with the top-spec AX7L variant offering exclusive R19 diamond-cut alloy wheels.
In terms of lighting, the Thar Roxx AX3L is equipped with LED projector headlamps, LED turn indicators on the fender, and LED tail lamps. However, it does miss out on LED DRLs and LED projector front fog lamps, which are reserved for higher variants.

The variant comes equipped with a robust safety kit, including 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, rear disk brakes, ESC, traction control, hill hold control, hill descent control, and roll-over mitigation. One of the standout features of the Thar Roxx AX3L is the inclusion of ADAS Level 2 Suite, which provides advanced driver assistance features, further enhancing the safety of the vehicle.
Under the hood, the Thar Roxx AX3L is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine available in two states of tune – 152 PS / 330 Nm and 175 PS / 370 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, with no automatic or 4WD option available for this variant. The manual transmission provides a more engaged driving experience, making it ideal for those who enjoy the traditional feel of shifting gears themselves.
