Mahindra races past Hyundai in car sales with the help of SUVs like Thar Roxx and Scorpio N Line

With a lineup of at least seven models, including the Bolero, Bolero Neo, and Scorpio Classic, Mahindra is renowned for its tough and audacious SUVs. With the introduction of the BE6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs, Mahindra is also increasing its presence in the electric vehicle market.

Later this month, both of these cars will be on sale, and starting the following month, they should help Mahindra maintain its ranking as the second-largest automaker in India.

Mahindra vs Hyundai: Sales race to the top

Mahindra has seen an increase in domestic sales ever since it started adding cutting-edge technology and a contemporary design language to its already-existing SUVs. From the 2020 Covid pandemic debut of the new generation, Thar three-door SUV to the most recent SUV model, the five-door Thar Roxx, Mahindra has been overtaking top manufacturers like Toyota, Tata, and Hyundai.

Mahindra sold 50,420 SUVs in India in February, up from 42,401 vehicles sold in the same month the previous year. The Mahindra stable's best-selling SUVs are still the Scorpio-N, XUV 3XO, XUV700, and Thar Roxx. Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra's Automotive Division, stated, "This strong performance is a result of a continued positive momentum for our SUV portfolio." With 3,061 units sent at this time, Mahindra's exports increased by over 100% over the 1539 units exported in February of the previous year.

Hyundai Motor had a decline in domestic sales last month, selling 47,727 units. Compared to the 50,201 units sold in the same month last year, it is down by over 5%.

Conclusion

Mahindra's impressive growth in the utility vehicle segment has propelled it ahead of Hyundai to become India's second-largest automaker. With strong sales from popular SUVs like the Thar Roxx, Scorpio-N, and XUV700, the company continues to dominate the SUV market. Additionally, Mahindra's expansion into the electric vehicle space with upcoming models like the BE6 and XEV 9e further strengthens its position. As Hyundai faces a decline in domestic sales, Mahindra's momentum suggests it will continue to challenge competitors and solidify its standing in the Indian automobile industry.
