Local Luxury SUV Launched at ₹2.75 Crore | Mercedes-Maybach GLS Made in India
  • Explains how India is now one of the few nations where the ultra-luxury Mercedes-Maybach GLS is built domestically.

  • Information on the special Celebration Edition introduced in the Indian market, as well as the new features and prices.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS, manufactured in India and priced at ₹2.75 crore (ex-showroom), was formally introduced by Mercedes-Benz India after local assembly at its Pune facility began.

After previously offering the GLS as a fully imported vehicle that fetched a higher price tag of about ₹3.17 crore, this represents a strategic change for the brand. The localization lowers the SUV's price by almost ₹42 lakh, making one of the most desirable models in the luxury SUV market comparatively more affordable for wealthy Indian purchasers.

Leading the Way in Local Production

As a result of the country's growing demand for high-end automobiles, India is now the first market outside of the US to make the ultra-luxury Maybach GLS locally. The move places the GLS in the top five markets worldwide for Maybach sales and demonstrates Mercedes-Benz's faith in India as a significant luxury market.

Performance and Power

The domestically built GLS is powered by a potent 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with a mild hybrid system that produces about 557 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque. It is mated to a nine-speed automated transmission and all-wheel drive.

With a stated 0–100 km/h time of about 4.9 seconds and an electronically regulated top speed of 250 km/h, this configuration offers quick performance.

Interior Design and Characteristics of Luxury

The GLS is the epitome of luxury inside. Dual 12.3-inch screens up front, entertainment screens in the back, four-zone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 29-speaker Burmester audio system are all included in the cabin.

Wireless chargers, sunblinds, and a chilled compartment are all features of Maybach's custom comfort concept for rear passengers. ADAS features and a 360-degree video system are examples of safety and driver aid technology.

The Celebration Edition: The Ultimate in Luxury

Mercedes-Benz has introduced an even more premium Maybach GLS Celebration Edition that costs ₹4.10 crore (ex-showroom) in addition to the normal model. With independently reclining rear seats, custom leather finishes, foldable work tables, a chilled champagne unit, and an MBUX back tablet interface for passengers, this version enhances its luxury credentials. It adds unique features that distinguish it in the luxury SUV market while keeping the same potent V8 engine and performance metrics.

For luxury automobile enthusiasts in India, the local manufacture of the Maybach GLS is a major turning point since it not only lowers waiting times and expenses but also establishes India as a key hub in Mercedes-Benz's global luxury lineup. The Maybach GLS currently offers an alluring blend of performance, comfort, and exclusivity in the face of fierce competition from other ultra-luxury SUVs.
