Hyundai Unveils New Hydrogen-Powered Nexo with 700 km Range
Hyundai officially launched the 2nd generation Nexo, which is a big step in the realm of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. The overall design of the new Nexo has received a sporty overhaul, with a highly futuristic yet rugged appeal, advanced technology, and an enhanced powertrain, all promising a single charge driving range of up to 700 km.
This next-generation model is derived from Hyundai's Initium concept, which made its debut at the 2024 LA Auto Show. It is the latest to fall under the brand's "Art of Steel" design philosophy, which is all about sharp lines, a strong stance, and an appeal that futuristically manifests ruggedness.
Hyundai has given the 2025 version of Nexo a boxy yet aerodynamic profile, with an arch-shaped cross-section that enhances the vehicle's distinctiveness on the road. Up front, the SUV features a block-pattern lighting setup with Hyundai's eminent 4 Dot Lamps that make it recognizable.

Sculpted bonnet with two character lines that are emphasized
D-shaped openings on the front bumper
Three-coat painting technique that changes color depending on the viewing angle
Phantom Black Pearl, Ocean Indigo Matte, Goyo Copper Pearl, among six exterior colors
The rear connects LED taillights with sculpted bumpers commands more futuristic appeal on Nexo.
Step into the new Nexo, and you will find a highly modern minimalist cabin that takes internal styling cues from Hyundai's premium SUVs, including Santa Fe and Palisade. The twin-deck center console integrates seamlessly into the dashboard with a neat and uncluttered aesthetic.

14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system

The gear selector mounted on the steering column, similar to the Creta Electric, also contributes to the high-tech feel of the SUV.
Hyundai has included Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features in the Nexo, thus enhancing safety and convenience.

Blind-spot collision-avoidance assist & viewer monitor
Emergency stop & navigation-based smart cruise control

The biggest highlight of the new Nexo is, of course, the hydrogen electric powertrain, which has been completely revamped. It now contains:

2.64 kWh lithium-ion battery
700 km claimed driving range
Hyundai claims that the Nexo can reach 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds and has a maximum speed of 179 km/h. These are solid numbers that justify hydrogen-powered vehicles for all efficiency and performance comparisons with traditional gasoline-powered SUVs.
In 2025, the company is placing its bets on Nexo and demonstrating what hydrogen fuel cell technology might achieve by doubling down on sustainable mobility. Its long-range, futuristic design and high-tech features are propelling it to be a strong contender in the burgeoning FCEV market. Though hydrogen-powered cars are still in their infancy, Hyundai's innovative touch heralds the arrival of the Nexo as the king of clean energy transportation. The Nexo could easily become a more attractive value proposition against both battery electric and conventional gasoline-powered SUVs as the necessary infrastructure for hydrogen refueling to grow.
