Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec Car Revealed

Hyundai has unveiled the Ioniq 5 N Pikes Peak race car ahead of the 2024 edition of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. Known as the Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec, this model is a modified version of the Ioniq 5 N and will race at the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June. Hyundai will compete with two Time Attack Spec cars in the modified electric SUV/Crossover class at Pikes Peak.

Enhanced Aerodynamics and Performance

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec features several modifications over the standard Ioniq 5 N:

  • High-Downforce Aero Kit: This includes a large rear wing, side sills, and fender flares to enhance aerodynamic performance.

  • Wheels and Tires: It is equipped with 18-inch 11J forged wheels wrapped in Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires.

  • Suspension and Brakes: The car boasts new shock absorbers, motorsport-spec brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, and a suspension setup with three-way adjustable dampers. The ride height and camber can also be adjusted.

Safety Features

To ensure driver safety and compliance with racing standards, the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec includes:

  • External Speakers: Modified external speakers produce the ‘N Active Sound+’ at over 120 decibels, enhancing driver feedback and replacing traditional race car sirens.

  • Racing Seats and Harnesses: It features a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat and a Sabelt six-point Hans safety harness.

  • Roll Cage and Fire Suppression: The car is equipped with a PPIHC specification roll cage and an EV fire suppression system.

Powertrain

The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec is powered by the same motors and 84kWh battery pack as the standard Ioniq 5 N but with enhanced performance:

  • Increased Power: The powertrain is retuned to deliver 678bhp, an increase of 37bhp thanks to an over-boost function.

  • Acceleration and Speed: Hyundai claims the Ioniq 5 N can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 260 km/h.

  • Range: The standard Ioniq 5 N offers a range of up to 448km, though specific range details for the Time Attack Spec are not yet disclosed.

Additional Participation

Alongside the Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec cars, Hyundai will also enter two production-spec Ioniq 5 Ns at Pikes Peak. These cars will aim for the ‘Electric Production SUV/Crossover’ record and will feature roll cages and necessary racing gear, but otherwise will resemble showroom models.

Conclusion

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec represents a significant upgrade over the standard Ioniq 5 N, with its enhanced aerodynamics, increased power, and advanced safety features, making it a formidable competitor in the modified electric SUV/Crossover class at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Hyundai's commitment to innovation in electric vehicle performance is clearly evident in this latest unveiling.
