Hyundai Ioniq 5 Facelift Headed to India with Bigger Battery, More Power, and Smarter Tech

The facelift replaces the existing 72.6kWh battery with a larger 84kWh unit, paired with a far more powerful 321bhp AWD motor.
Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will now be integrated natively into the infotainment screen, no adapter required.

Hyundai Motor India is gearing up to bring the updated Ioniq 5 to the country, and going by what has already been confirmed, it is a considerably more complete product than the car it replaces.

A wrapped test mule of the facelift was even spotted running on Indian roads ahead of its expected arrival, signalling that the launch is not far off. Prices are estimated to fall between Rs. 60 lakh and Rs. 65 lakh, with a tentative launch in May 2026.

A Familiar Silhouette with Carefully Considered Updates

At first glance, the Ioniq 5 facelift does not announce itself loudly. The overall silhouette remains intact, but the details tell a different story. The front end receives a mild revision, the rear bumper is reworked and now incorporates two integrated fog lights, and the alloy wheels adopt a fresh dual-tone finish. It is a restrained update, but it keeps the car's distinctive retro-futuristic character well intact.

Inside, the cabin carries forward the same dual 12.3-inch display setup, one screen for the instrument cluster and the other for infotainment. The logoless steering wheel is retained, though the flat-bottom design receives further refinement. The most welcome interior change, however, is that wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now built directly into the infotainment system rather than requiring an adapter to function.

A Significant Mechanical Step Up from the Outgoing Car

This is where the facelift makes its most compelling argument. The existing Ioniq 5 in India uses a 72.6kWh battery paired with a 214bhp and 350Nm rear-wheel-drive motor. The updated car swaps this out for an 84kWh battery matched to a 321bhp and 605Nm all-wheel-drive setup, the very same powertrain found in the Kia EV6 GT. That is a substantial leap in both capacity and performance.

DC fast charging capability stands at 350kW, enabling the battery to charge from 30 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes. The car also grows slightly in length, measuring 4,655mm compared to the existing model's 4,635mm, a difference of 20mm.

Features That Were Missing Are Now on Board

The facelift's equipment list fills in some gaps that were hard to overlook in the earlier version. The car comes equipped with 20-inch dual-tone alloys, all-round disc brakes, paddle shifters for regenerative braking adjustment, a five-link rear suspension setup, vehicle-to-vehicle reverse charging, a powered tailgate, electric lumbar support, and a head-up display.
